Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb “TOLU” Dada.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Caleb. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began in music at the age of seven. I come from a family of trumpeters and a dynamic vocalist, my sister Grace O. Dada. I started with trumpet but throughout my musical schooling and career have picked up the Bass and Acoustic Guitar, Baritone, Tuba, Piano, Organ, and have had a couple of voice lessons along the way. I’ve played alongside the Live Out Loud Band in the city of Houston for the past eight years and have been playing professionally for about 16 years. I’ve also traveled the country along with the Live Out Loud Band opening up and performing with such acts as Mario, Tobe Newigwe, Solange Knowles, Matthew, Knowles, Oshun, Donnie Hosuton, Slim Thug, D.J. Chose, Willie D. Ty Dolla $, Shawn McLemore, just to name a few. The journey hasn’t been easy but it’s much rewarding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any journey, it had its share of good and not so good times. The thing about growing up in certain environments is that there are not many mentors to look up to and gain knowledge and understanding form. So you are dealt the cards that requires you to bump your head many times before you figure it out. I find this very emphasized with my situation being that I’m a first-generation Nigerian. So the majority of my learning curve was established through trail and error. But as I said with the not so good days, there were many great days filled with love and joy. Music has always been the river along the journey when I need to drink.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Live Out Loud Studios is a production company based in Houston, TX. That specializes in music productions, recordings, film, and many other forms of content creation. The part of the company that I’m highlighting is my personal brand, “TOLU.” I’m a producer, writer, musician. What makes me stand apart from others is that I present the live instrument experience in a very pop/mainstream way. Additionally my musical productions are very modern, sounding with a flavorful melodic twist.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to change the way people perceive live instrumentalist, to make the community more mainstream media. Yes, I have much in the works, I have a series of remix videos due to release fall 2020 that features me remixing popular songs from all decades. I’m extremely excited about the series, I really believe and hope people will enjoy it!
