Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Steele.
Candace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved arts and crafts, particularly DIY projects! When I was younger, I loved learning how to write and practiced different writing techniques until I thought my handwriting looked “perfect”. Once I learned how to properly address an envelope in school, my grandfather put me to work every time I visited his house. He had me addressing all of the envelopes for his bills – I guess that’s where my training began. Fast forward to 2019 and I found myself enrolled in a Modern Calligraphy workshop here in Houston to learn the basics. I fell in love with the art instantly, practiced daily, and was inspired to begin creating my own calligraphy projects.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve struggled with being patient with myself while learning and perfecting my craft. I am very new to this form of art and my technique continues to improve daily.
Please tell us about Steele Magnolia Calligraphy.
I specialize in Modern Calligraphy, Engraving, and Crafts. I’m known for listening to my clients’ needs and helping them bring their creative ideas to fruition. What I’m most proud of is getting to be a part of so many special life events. I love to see how my work made a positive impact and it means the world to me that I get to be a small part of some of the most memorable moments. There are many artists that people can work with and it makes me extremely grateful when I get to create something new. What sets me apart from others is that I’m there each step of the way with my clients, everyone gets a custom experience. I am sure to communicate throughout each phase of the project, send progress pictures, and follow up afterwards.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I probably would’ve started sooner!
