Today we’d like to introduce you to Captain Dwayne Green.
Captain Dwayne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in the small town of Alvin, Texas, being the son of a rice farmer and being involved in the outdoors was just second nature. Year around our family would be fishing or hunting from the bays around Galveston to bird hunting on the land we farmed near Dickinson to deer hunting in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. It was a way that we spent our time as a family and that became a passion for me. In 2008 my passion and dream took its first steps in becoming what it is today. I was doing everything at that point on my own and as fate and Facebook would have it, I happened to catch up with an old high school friend who enjoyed the fishing and the great outdoors as much as I did; so we teamed up and created the first vision of what I wanted to do with my dream.
This was a great time and I learned a lot both about the outfitting industry and what my true vision was. We worked together until early March 2015 when he decided to move on to other ventures. I had bigger dreams for now what was my life’s passion. This was the birth of Texas Legacy Outdoors. I did not want to create a single moment for my clients but wanted to create memories they would cherish for a lifetime. I wanted to be able to give opportunities to those less fortunate by getting them involved and being able to give back to the community that supports us. Doors started to open fairly quickly for Texas Legacy Outdoors. We were able to offer all types of hunts and fishing trips in Texas and beyond.
TLO was also fortunate to team up with the Junior Gordon Band to start an annual fishing trip and duck hunt for our veterans in appreciation for their service. I had also secured contracts with 4 ranches in the state of Texas where we offer deer, turkey and exotic hunts with many of those being with families. I must say that has to be one of the most rewarding activities TLO has the opportunity to do. Having a son or daughter with his/her mom or dad during their first hunt or fishing trip are the memories that they will all carry with them and talk about through the years to come. One thing I have learned and would share is that hard work pays off; dreams do come true. Believe in dreams and have faith.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. The main struggle is always financial. The hardest struggle to overcome is to find the right people who have the same passion and understanding of your own dreams to make it a living breathing thing. I was really blessed in 2018 when I partnered up with Tim Munos, owner of Busha Boats Works in Bay City, Texas.
I have learned it takes someone with different talents than yourself to make any partnership successful. I have always been the dreamer and Tim is the guy who keeps us grounded. We are both outgoing and enjoy meeting new people, which is a must in our business. With Tim on board, I believe the sky is the limit.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Texas Legacy Outdoors LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
At Texas Legacy Outdoors we provide a wide variety of guided fishing and hunting trips for all outdoor adventures and excitement. Whether these adventures be offshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or a day on the beautiful waters of Matagorda Bay, peace and excitement will be at your fingertips. Depending on the season, TLO is eager to cater to all types of outdoor enthusiasts. Ducks, deer, turkeys, and exotics – from bow to bullets – Texas Legacy Outdoors is always able to please the vast assortment of hunters.
We specialize in Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunts in Texas and Alabama. Bay and Offshore Fishing trips out of Matagorda, Texas. Duck hunting, exotic hunts, turkey hunts, dove hunts are available Texas. Quail and pheasant hunts are available in Alabama. We are most proud of the way we have been able to give trips to the youth and veterans in our community.
Giving to those who have given us our freedom to do what we love is our small way of saying thank you to the men and women in our armed forces. Also, getting our youth who are less fortunate and don’t have the opportunity to fish or hunt is of the utmost importance to TLO. Texas Legacy Outdoors wants to make sure people in the future love and respect the outdoors.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think that the outdoor industry will continue to grow. With all the television, YouTube channels and major marketing focused on the outdoors it will continue to be a top income for most states. Hunting and fishing in Texas is as big or close to as big as the oil industry and that is saying a lot.
