Meet Captain Robert Donley of My Wedding on the Water in Clear Lake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Captain Robert Donley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A late in life career change, I followed my passion for a career on the water. I started operating yachts on clear lake and preforming weddings on the dinner cruise boats. The weddings are awesome but expensive. I was talking to a friend that works in the Harris County Court House and he told me about 500 people a week get marriage licenses and about half go to the Justice of the Peace, either encore weddings or they just don’t have the budget for anything else. I thought about the people that don’t have a large budget for a big fancy wedding and put together My Wedding on the Water as an alternative to the court house venue. It is the Bride and Grooms day so we customize each wedding to their desires making it the special day they deserve.

I perform each wedding in Captains uniform either in shorts or double breasted blazer with the gold bands on the sleeves, floating in the middle of Clear Lake then on to a cruise under the Seabrook Bridge and by the Kemah Boardwalk. It is an awesome time when people on the water or the boardwalk take time to yell out “CONGRATULATIONS” to the new couple. I provide a bottle of champagne and a small cake all for under $900.00.

The sun is setting, there is a cool breeze by your face, the light wind is blowing your hair and you are barefoot in a bridal gown on the bow of a Yacht…. LET’S GET MARRIED!!!

My Wedding on the Water is your affordable unique alternative to a courthouse wedding. Imagine saying “I DO” on a beautiful motor yacht leaving from Waterford Harbor Marina then against the backdrop of picturesque Clear Lake or Galveston Bay. Celebrate the occasion with a cruise around the area, just you and the ones you have chosen to share your special day with.

We specialize in weddings but do other charters as well. Birthdays, engagements, company outings, bachelorette parties, memorial services, or just go out and watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

I am proud of the many people that had a unique experience to, when the groom comes up to the flying bridge while under way and express overwhelming gratitude stating they would never been able to have a wedding like this without My Wedding on the Water, or seeing a tear in the brides or grooms face it makes it all worthwhile. (I almost broke down and cried with them a couple of times).

What sets us apart is that we are not cookie cutter and if we don’t get started on time we start later it’s still your day!
