Meet Carlos and Mark Arce of Pro Remodel by EDBA in Museum District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos and Mark Arce.

Carlos and Mark, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story begins 31 years ago in my beautiful island of Puerto Rico following my dad footsteps as a cabinet maker. After marring the love of my life Aidsa. We decided to move to Houston Texas in the summer of 1988. I worked as a designer and operator for an oil and gas company for 16 years. In 2002, my entrepreneur side started to call my name so I left my career to started building outdoor kitchens in Sugarland and Houston area. Shortly after that I opened countertop fabrication shop with my wife, in 2006 serving all Houston and greater areas. In 2008 we moved to a bigger space in the North Houston adding an American cabinetry line, flooring, and other remodeling needs.

In 2012, a few major change in our family business occurred. My son Mark joined the business following his passion of kitchen and bath design, so to my pleasure I get to work side by side with him daily as our designer. We also made a huge family decision to leave the remodeling business and venture in opening a mono brand store of Italian, Modern Kitchen and Bath Design Studio by Scavolini in the Galleria area.

After spending five great years in the Galleria area, as Scavolini Store Houston our family decided to take on a new and exciting challenge and transform a 6,800sqft, 1940 grocery store in the museum district as PRO Remodel by EDBA. We have entirely restored the building as a complete home remodeling design studio. Where we not only offer Scavolini modern cabinetry but also traditional and transitional cabinetry as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With every small business comes it struggles. Relocating and expanding, brings its own set of worries. Such as a deadline to open, more expenses, and finding the right marketing tool to ensure clients are aware of the change. There are also things that are out of our control such as economics and politics that can play a huge role in any business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We offer kitchens and baths, closets, flooring countertops, backsplash, interior and exterior painting, interior doors, and room additions. I think what sets us apart from any other business is that we are Family owned and operated. We work hard to create a calm and relaxed environment for interior designers, architects, builders, and any client who is interested in any home remodeling needs. We also stand out because we can offer a variety of design styles from modern to traditional. Our goal is to give each client their dream space on their budget.

What were you like growing up?
I was always creating something with my dad’s tools and wood. I was like any kid full of energy and a dream to make it big.
