Meet Carlos Nunez of Azulimon Photography in Richmond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Nunez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My photography journey started in Mexico where I was born and raised. My father used to collect old cameras and I remember playing with this Rollei camera taking pictures of all I could find 🙂 Then, when in high school, I started selling T-Shirts to my friends, that hobby derived to opening a clothing business in Monterrey. That store helped to pay for my tuition in business management and design. It was a fun time but with its caveats. Over that decade, my photography hobby paid off. With the help of other professionals in the field that I admire and from which I learned a lot, countless workshops and hours of studying techniques, lighting, composition and, above all, experimenting, all of my catalogs were shot by me. The business started to pivot to a photography centered hub. Next, I know I was doing couples, weddings, studio portraits shoots, etc. This was a rediscover, fall in love again with photography. It is limitless as an art and it is my passion.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride, however I always get up in the morning and put some music. Music is the amalgam of my soul and the world. It has helped me through the rough and has lifted my spirit to celebrate my achievements. So I have to say, I always keep dancing through the road with a good playlist, it does not matter if it is rough or sweet you just have to enjoy it. And if it is with someone you love, it just gets better.

Please tell us about Azulimon Photography.
My business name is Azulimon Photography. It specializes in portrait photography, couples, family, weddings, XVañeras and lifestyle. Each picture I take represents the music I´ve heard, the paintings I´ve seen, the books I´ve read, the people I love, the story behind me. Photography is my passion and in each photoshoot, it is not unusual that I have to set an alarm or tell my assistant to stop me from taking pictures because I can do it all day. I am proud of my company because it is so personal, it involves my creativity, my knowledge and my story.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my photography career earlier because there is so much that you can do in photography. Like commercial, landscape, nature, medical, astrophotography, fashion, forensic, sports, etc., It is an amazing universe.
