Carmen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business in the medical staffing sector in 1999. Over the years we obtained our 8(a) small business certification and minority woman owned certifications as well. We expanded our services to include skilled technical staffing and peaked at over $12M annual revenue in 2007 with military contracts. We were selected #16 in Houston’s Top 100 fastest growing business in 2002 and I was runner-up to Houston Female Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008 and 2013. Since then we have settled into about $3M annual revenue and continue to pursue technical and skilled staffing opportunities.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Fluctuations in employment market and downturn in Oil/Gas industry. Competing against larger staffing agencies has been the biggest challenge of all.
