Meet Carol Pock of Cooking with Carol in Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Pock.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carol. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While I was teaching Middle school math, I discovered a terrific combination of cooking and teaching math. Once I retired from teaching, I became the Executive Director of the Rice Epicurean Cooking School. Unlike other cooking schools, I do not set a calendar of classes and try to fill them, people both young and old contact me and I customize each menu and only offer an interactive, hands on cooking class. All participants work in small groups preparing a meal together and eat in a community setting. I coach and teach nutrition information, use of cooking tools and technique and food preparation as well as top notch cooking skills. We do life events, adult and children’s parties, but our most popular classes are our corporate team building classes through a spinoff of the Food Networks type of “Mystery Basket as well as our version of Chopped and Food Competitions. My classes are a true” recipe for success”. The cooking classes are located in The Rice Epicurean Market and I have full access to the grocery store and the finest quality of food products. I am a breast cancer survivor and always aware of the great importance that food and working together with fellowship, fun and laughter can be. This makes my classes’ wonderful experience for all.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My road from teaching math to teaching cooking has been a joy! I have loved every minute. I am happy to say, I have not struggled, but- I am a breast cancer survivor, so I know the importance of great health and living a healthy life. I do not take much for granite anymore. By teaching cooking too many, I feel I have a way to take back some control over my life and things we put in our bodies. Weight and healthy living is always a challenge, but one I always try to embrace and do not see it as an obstacle at all.

Cooking with Carol – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the Executive Directive of The Rice Epicurean Cooking School. I am the Culinary Instructor. The school is located in Rice Epicurean Market at 2020 Fountain View. It has been an 80 year old special grocery chain. In the other question I did describe what sets me apart.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel each class I host is only successful if everyone feels they have experienced joy, fellowship and a sense of community. Many people come to the cooking school with various levels of skill, but everyone leaves feeling a great sense of accomplishment and a greater sense of teamwork and friendship. I define success not by what I did, but what my class felt- both in my math classrooms and my cooking classrooms.
