Meet Carolyn Parker of Your Doula Experience

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Parker.

Carolyn, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I was considered the family’s Au Pair… better known as the live in Nanny. When my favorite cousin told me she was pregnant with her now 13-year-old child, I was really excited. Maybe more than her. My interest in birth work was ignited. The more I began to research pregnancy and childbirth, the more I became more knowledgeable about the disparities directly pertaining to Black Maternal Health. I see that my community is literally dying. I can talk about it, sympathize, and even quote statistics about black maternal deaths due to systemic racism. For me that’s not enough. I wanted to do more, so I became a Professionally Trained Certified Birth Doula. Having someone who is all about the betterment of you and your baby is a luxury most can’t even imagine. I want to advocate for you… be your voice when you’re riding the waves of your contractions, tag team with your partner making sure they are a part of your birth experience. I want to provide evidence-based knowledge about childbirth, and discuss what’s best for you, your baby, and your family. Your well being is non-negotiable. Your baby’s well being is non-negotiable. You deserve a positive birth experience.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With the ever-changing information surrounding Covid-19, everyone has faced a few challenges. I am not exempt from these challenges. One struggle in particular has been providing in person support to my clients. I like to think that there is a solution to every obstacle, even during a global pandemic. I have come up with options for my clients who are not comfortable with in person support, which is providing virtual Doula support. I can still provide support and education via emails, texts, video conferencing, and phone regarding their pregnancy.

Your Doula Experience – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Your Doula Experience provides physical, emotional, and educational support before, during, and after your birth by optimizing positive outcomes for Mothers and Babies. I am known for providing evidence-based support to my clients. I am most proud that I am able to help women become informed about what is happening during the course of their labor. What sets Your Doula Experience apart from others is ensuring that clients are always in control of their birth experience.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been able to connect with so many people (Both Women and Men) about different aspects of childbirth. Maybe it’s Good Luck, maybe it’s divine intervention… but whatever it is, I am grateful to serve as a subject matter expert to individuals regarding childbirth.
