Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Sanders.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been in love with fashion for as long as I can remember and knew I would do something with it someday. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business from Sam Houston State University. In order to graduate we all had to intern for a period of time so I chose Nordstrom in the Galleria and later worked full time for 2 1/2 years. While working there, it became clear I wanted to open my own store but I needed more experience and knowledge on how to do so. Therefore, I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles for the nine months Professional Designate program for Merchandise Marketing. I also worked at a showroom after I finished school and stayed in LA for a little over two years. In May of 2009, I moved back to Houston with the mission to open my boutique, Carrie Ann. By October, I had found my location in Uptown Park and February of 2010 opened for business. Almost ten years later and we are still in Uptown Park. For a year, I had a pop up in Market Street the Woodlands which was a great experience and helped gained a lot more exposure.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like no business is 100% a smooth road. You learn so much everyday and over the years.
Please tell us about Carrie Ann.
My name is Carrie Ann Sanders and I own Carrie Ann a women’s apparel and dog accessories boutique in Uptown Park. I’m so proud that we were one of the first boutiques in Houston to allow pets while you shop. By far, that has always set us apart, not only do we sell dog accessories but we have specific events for your dog.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when my parents surprised me with my first dog, Spooky. I had begged for a puppy and in second grade, I had come home from a friend’s house to the cutest fluffy poodle you had ever seen. Spooky lived to be just shy of 17 years old.
