Meet Carrie Zettlemoyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Zettlemoyer.

Carrie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked holidays at H-E-B in the floral department for years. My daughter asked me to do the flowers for her wedding in May of 2019. I couldn’t possibly say no, but I was a little terrified. The wedding went off without a hitch, and I discovered a feeling of peace working with the flowers that I had not felt before. I knew that it would be almost impossible to break into an almost completely saturated wedding industry, but I wanted to give it a try. I am a very sentimental person, and I wanted to give brides a way to keep their flowers and wedding mementos forever. I opted to go into wedding flower preservation at that point. I offered custom shadow boxes and bouquet preservation. More Than A Memory was born in June of 2019. More than once, I was asked who had done my daughter’s wedding flowers, so we began offering wedding flower services as well as the preservation and shadow boxes.

One of the most important questions that I ask my brides is whether they have something sentimental they would like to incorporate into their bouquets. I lost my mother when I was 18 years old, and my heart breaks for any bride or groom that has to spend their special day without someone important to them. I gift my couples that something sentimental that will ease some of the pain of walking down the aisle without that special someone. I believe that is what makes More Than A Memory unique. I have made a “flower” out of a Paw-Paw’s old blue-jeans, re-created a mother’s bridal bouquet, and incorporated favorite flowers into bouquets and boutonnieres so brides and grooms can have that something special that takes a little pain away and replaces it with joy. We are so blessed to call our bride and groom’s family. These are relationships that I feel confident we will continue to have for years to come. Over 100 bookings and going strong!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, we have had a very smooth road. I feel like each, and every bride and groom were placed on our path for a specific reason. Every talented vendor we have met has given us so much knowledge that has been so helpful. This is our time. We have encountered some of the most amazing people.

Please tell us about your work.
We are a full-service florist specializing in weddings and special events. We are known for our sentimental touches. I try to get to know my bride and groom personally. They become “family” and this does not end after the wedding is over. I try to keep in touch even after the “I Do’s” are said. I learn as much as I can about them. During this process, they open up to me easily about people they are missing. At this point, I see the opportunity to offer a sentimental gift to them. A remembrance of some sort to ease the pain of that person not being able to attend their wedding. Sometimes, they know about it in advance, and sometimes it is a surprise. I did not have my mom at my wedding, and it is a pain that does not go away. I try to show them that I acknowledge how hard it can be. I can never replace that person, but I can give them some memory that makes the day easier. This is what makes me the proudest of as a company. I think the words that I hear most from my current and past brides are “she goes way above and beyond”. That is what I strive to do for EVERY wedding and event I am a part of.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started sooner! This has been the most gratifying experience in my life thus far!
