Meet Casey McCain of Trinity Health and Family Practice in Atascocita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey McCain.

Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a native Houstonian who left at 14 years old to attend boarding school in Connecticut and eventually found my way back to Texas. I returned to earn my medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio after graduating from Duke University with a bachelor of arts in Classical Languages. After graduating from the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in 2011, I joined a private practice providing family health care to fellow Texans in Northeast Houston area of Atascocita, Kingwood, and Humble. Over the last 6 years I have grown to know the area and patients well. Practicing in a large clinic, I learned ways to improve the physician-patient relationship while also focusing on Preventative Medicine as well as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and other common chronic conditions. I also became interested in Obesity Medicine, joining The Obesity Medicine Association and completing the certification process to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2016. I have also served as Medical Director for New Horizons Wellness Center and ventured into telemedicine as a physician for Teladoc. These diverse learning environments and experiences led me to open a new private practice with the goal of creating my own medical home for the residents of Northeast Houston with a focus on providing patient-centered, comprehensive, and accessible care to the community.

Has it been a smooth road?
I grew up in a single parent family with limited resources but I was fortunate in that my mother was determined to provide great educational opportunities for me. It was NOT easy to leave home at 14 years old but boarding school ended up being the best 4 years of my life and great preparation for the challenges I would face in becoming a physician.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Trinity Health and Family Practice – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Trinity Health and Family Practice, my team and I share a common drive to improve the health of our patients and the community we serve. Our vision is to demonstrate primary care excellence by providing the personalized, patient-centered care of a true medical home. We aim to treat the “whole person”, not just a disease or illness.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Houston is culturally diverse which not only gives us many different types of restaurants to explore, a dream for a foodie like me, but also a multitude of educational and entertainment opportunities.

I would love to see more of a focus on outdoor fitness in the city. Houston is ranked in the top 20 fattest cities in America, We need to do something to combat that. It would be great to see more dedicated trails being built for jogging and cycling.
