Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Rivera.
Hi Cecilia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an attorney from Mexico graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Tec de Monterrey).
I moved to Houston right after graduating in 2006. At the time, I was working at the Mexican Government and even though I had a good job, I always wanted to live in another country and experience different cultures, since my father always encouraged my siblings and myself to find better opportunities, so I decided to quit my job and move here.
I started my own firm to do business advisory between México and USA; we help our clients to start a business in USA and we do their corporate set up as well as fiscal planning to minimize their taxes.
In 2017, I was invited to become a partner at GLZ Abogados, a top firm in Mexico that provides services in various areas of law, so we merged into one firm and we’ve been successfully helping clients in both countries since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was a little challenging at the beginning, being in another county, not knowing a lot of people and another language, but I’ve been lucky enough to find great people along the way who had helped and supported me. Specially my husband, Michael.

In USA, we provide corporate and fiscal advisory. In México, our Areas of practice are Commercial Law and Consumer Protection, Administrative and Fiscal Law, Labor Law, Intellectual Property Law and Author; Real Estate and Regulatory Law, Bankruptcy Law, Corporate-Transactional Law and Economic Competition.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love to race cars. By far, my biggest passion in life has always been cars. I even had a second job at Lotus Driving Academy at MSR Houston which allowed me to be at the track multiple times.
