Meet Chad Brawley of South Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Brawley.

Chad Brawley

Chad, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Currently, I serve as the Pastor of Worship Arts at The Luke Church in Humble, Texas—a role that feels like the culmination of a lifelong journey. In many ways, I’ve been in preparation for this work my entire life. As a child, I was captivated by everything musical and artistic that happened in church. I paid close attention to every sound, song, and movement, not realizing that God was cultivating both my curiosity and calling.

Over the years, I began formal training through piano and organ lessons, which deepened my passion for sacred music. That passion led me to study music at Prairie View A&M University and the University of North Texas, where I gained a strong academic and creative foundation. Eager to further my understanding of worship and leadership, I earned a Master of Arts in Worship from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, followed by a Doctor of Ministry in Transformational Leadership from Boston University School of Theology.

In addition to my role at The Luke, I also serve as Co-Minister of Music at World Harvest Outreach Seventh-day Adventist Church, where I continue to collaborate with other leaders to shape meaningful worship experiences that engage the heart and mind.

I am deeply grateful for my parents, mentors, and the faith communities that have poured into me throughout this journey. Their influence continues to shape how I approach ministry—with excellence, humility, and a genuine desire to see God’s people encounter God’s presence through worship and the arts.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not always been smooth. Along the way, I’ve had to confront my own challenges and learn to prioritize my mental and emotional health. I continue to invest in practices that support my mental wellness, and I’m grateful for the growth, clarity, and resilience that have come as a result.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m very much a creative at heart, even though my day-to-day work in ministry is largely administrative and leadership-focused. At The Luke Church, I oversee a Worship Arts Ministry of more than 250 volunteers and staff. My role involves vision-setting, team development, pastoral care, and coordinating the many moving parts that support meaningful worship each week.

In addition to my local church work, I lead The Brawley Group, a consulting firm dedicated to strengthening churches through ministry education, leadership development, and executive searches for worship and arts positions. I’m committed to helping congregations build healthy systems, discover the right leaders, and cultivate worship environments marked by excellence and spiritual depth.

Beyond working as a professional musician and serving churches as a leader and consultant, I’m also deeply invested in the wider community. I’m grateful for the privilege of serving as a music leader for several official City of Houston events throughout the year—opportunities that allow me to contribute to the cultural and civic life of our city. I’m especially excited about my recent HIV-awareness work in collaboration with ViiV Healthcare, which has given me the chance to use my artistic gifts and to help advance health, education, and advocacy in meaningful ways.

Most recently, I’m grateful to add teaching to my professional portfolio. I now serve as an instructor in the School of Religion at Hampton University, a role that allows me to pour into emerging leaders and help shape the next generation of ministry practitioners.

Altogether, my work reflects what I value most: creativity, leadership, community impact, and the responsibility to serve with excellence wherever and whenever.
