Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad The Choppa
Hi Chad , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago so a fresh haircut was essential part of our wardrobe. The movie the barbershop was filmed in Chicago because one the first barber schools ever was established there. Just a quick history lesson. The first time I picked up a set of clippers was in high school. Gave myself one of the worst self haircuts in history. That prompted me to go to a professional barber every week to get my haircut. So every Thursday or Friday I was in the chair getting a fresh cut. Fast forward I went off to college attended UAPB where I was cutting out my dorm room. It wasn’t until later on in my life that I would pick up some clippers again. Right before the covid pandemic I relocated to Houston from Atlanta. I’d only been lived in Atlanta for about 11 months prior from Chicago. I got furloughed from my job like most of us did. One day while quarantined I decided to write down a list of my skills. I figured the world would never sit this still again so it would be a great time to pivot and try something new. I enrolled in barber college graduated less than a year later. I began working at the barbershop that I would get my haircut at when I first moved to Houston. I have a background in marketing and brand building so I was able to grow my clientele rather quickly. I recently opened my own private barber studio in Midtown Houston summer of 2024. My business has been growing rapidly. My goal is to open a barber school of my own that focuses on how to become a professional barber rather than a hair cutter. I want to give students the skills to structure their business properly, acquire grants, business credit and etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is no such thing as success without struggle. I think my biggest obstacle was realizing I have to remain a student at all times. Being open and willing to always learn and study. Which is not always easy when you begin to see some sort of success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Barber by trade and an Image Architect. I specialized in luxury grooming that ranges from haircuts to skin care. I think I’m known as the barber with the well decorated, man cave style, private barber studio. My son is what I’m most proud of because without him I don’t think I’d be as ambitious about barbering and business. I think the overall services that I offer set me apart from others. I’m not just cutting your hair. We’re collaborating to create a unique work of art.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My friend and former barber Bigz who’s an Atlanta based barber really gave me some key information early on in my career that helped pushed me in the right direction.
