Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlecia Johnson.
Charlecia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 2010 graduate from Sam Houston State University. After graduating from college, it took me a while to find my niche and purpose. I went from job to job trying navigate my way through adulthood. I knew that I had a passion for helping others however, I struggled to figure out in what capacity I should be doing it in.
After leaving the social work arena. I took a position as a classroom interventionist and stumbled upon my calling! I have been a teacher for six years in the Houston area. I was even recognized as Teacher of the year in 2017. Although being a teacher is rewarding in so many ways, like many fellow educators, I found myself needing to supplement my income. Two years ago, I began making custom shirts and apparel as a fun side hustle. Word of mouth and establishing relationships had helped my business to grow exponentially. Recently, I decided to rebrand myself and Xclusive Xpressions was born!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say that it has been a progressive road. I have learned so much business-wise in these last two years that will only continue to propel my business forward.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a big personality and been involved in all types of extra-curricular activities. Even though my passion was dance, from elementary school, my mother made sure that I was involved in something to uplift both myself and my community.
I was apart of a focus group for the Houston Children’s museum. I was a serial volunteer with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. I taught baton twirling classes to inner-city youth. I served as Teen Mayor of Houston’s Youth City Council. In 2005, I was awarded volunteer of the Year by the City of Houston.
