Charles , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
17 years ago, I was sitting in a dorm room at Prairie View A&M University when a close friend of mine told me about this new job he started at ADT Home Security. He told me I would be perfect for it. He was really excited about it telling me about how much money I could make because he thought I had the perfect personality for it.
So I started thinking to myself… My mother being a Professional stand up comedian I’d been exposed to nothing but Extroverts & with me being a natural one So I was game!
When I got there for the interview, I found out that the position was a Door-to-Door Sales rep with a goofy sales pitch that started off with ” Hi, My Name is Charles! Don’t worry im not here to sell you anything” Knowing darn well I would be sent out there to “SELL SELL SELL”
Before I knew it four years had gone by and I worked my way up to sales manager. Being a Sales manager at ADT was a “Big Deal”, Well according to them it was. They put so much glory and emphasis on this position that I was obsessed with being a sales manager but once I made it, I found myself not content. I didn’t truly know the definition of what a ceiling was until I made it to that position.
So With the Contacts and experience that I gained from ADT, I decided to research exactly what I needed to do to start my own alarm company. After securing all of the proper licenses and insurances, I stepped out on faith and started my own Alarm Company.
Has it been a smooth road?
Whew! I don’t even know where to start on this question! It has absolutely been a constant challenge to find good technicians that do good work. For me, the getting in front of people and the sales part has never been an issue. The Technician/Installation part has always been the toughest thing to deal with. I didn’t start out as a Technician. I was all sales only. So it never mattered how much I could sell, if it didn’t get installed no-one gets paid.
When I first started my company, It just seemed like for the longest time almost every technician that I hired had an excuse as to why they either couldn’t make it to a clients house or why there was an unhappy client due to how their system was installed.
SO I took matters into my own hands, shut my company down for a little over year, and mastered every different type of installation there was to learn. How the tables have turned! I now do about 90% of my own installations myself with a small crew of very reliable technicians to handle the other 10%. I’ve been Installing myself now for eight years, and everything is as smooth as can be with my hands-on approach.

I feel like Houston is THE BEST place for my business! I mean, think about it, Houston is one of the largest cities in the Nation. People move here every day. Homes are being built here at a very rapid rate. There’s constant road work being done to expand freeways to accommodate more traffic. More Traffic means more residents, more residents means more opportunity!
