Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie H.
Charlie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In a nutshell, we are a band whose roots started back in 2002 when we were in Sharpstown High School. We went through many lineup changes, band names, and startups. Had our ups and downs like all bands and in 2016 we reformed as Via Linda with a new drummer. We had our first show in May of 2017. Since then, it’s been about 40 shows. We’ve had the pleasure to open for a few national acts such as Puddle of Mudd, 10 Years, Trapt, and Saving Abel. We have 2 EPs we released since 2017. The first one, a three-song collection called Peachy Cool Arrow. In May of this year, we released Apollo, a six-song, completely made in house EP. As of today, we are gearing up for a few shows. October 23 we hit up Warehouse Live with Bullet Boys. The next day, we head up to Austin for a showcase to hopefully hop on a national Fest in Mexico City. On November 2nd, we have an acoustic performance in Conroe at Lonestar Brewery. It’s been a long ride since our teenage years, but we’re in a good place now as Via Linda.
Band members:
VLC – Singer/guitarist
Pab – Bassist
Showtime Steve – Guitarist
JD – Drummer
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We started as high schoolers and there’s always the problems of just growing up and finding your own paths and where you stand. We naturally all get along, so inner turmoil was never an issue. We were with eachother all the time and I think we just wanted to grow independently. The ups and downs were always do to priorities and personal goals we each had to our own lives. In 2010, we took our break and grew up. I believe the down that we had made us come back and have the best UPs we ever have had as a band.
Please tell us about Via Linda.
We are a band from Sharpstown, 2002 is a long time. But we want to be the biggest band from Houston. We want our songs to reach people, and hopefully, when we get a platform, we can help people.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The list is endless. 2002… you compile notebooks of names. To our parents for buying us our first instruments and dealing with our horrible band habits. Fellow band members who’ve been a part of us over the years. Our wives and fam for being behind us while we try to pursue something that’s out of this world. All of our friends and roadies who helped take all our gear and give us rides just because they liked us. To all our supporters for making us look good and giving us words of encouragement.
