Meet Chase Sloan of The Chasing Real Estate Group in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Sloan.

Chase, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My real estate story begins in 2010. I was frustrated from working multiple jobs and felt like I was spinning my wheels. After facing a wage decrease in the middle of what was considered a recession for America and limited opportunities to grow with my then employer, I made a decision to bet on me. Originally, I obtained my real estate license as an opportunity to be in control of the income that could make. Million Dollar Listing was a hit show and I liked working with people, that’s pretty much all the confirmation I needed.  I joined Keller Williams Houston Preferred shortly after obtaining my real estate license and over the years I’ve learned and developed my skills as a businesswoman and philanthropist.

The warnings of the risk were louder than the applause when I decided to leave my job. I was 27 years old, a graduate from the University of Houston, and I was walking away from consistent pay to a commission-only based career in real estate. I hadn’t even purchased a home yet and here I was ready to help others! Houston was experiencing a market shift; foreclosures and short sales plagued the city. I knew that if I survived my first year in one of the toughest real estate markets since the ‘80s, I could build a career and inspire others to do the same.

At the time, most of my friends and associates were in college or battling student loan debt like me.  I became an advocate of home ownership and long-term wealth building strategies. I committed to educating myself and sharing with others what I was learning. My business continued to grow and soon I was a top producer in my brokerage and began to serve on local and international leadership committees.  From first-time home buyers to corporate relocations, my knowledge of real estate became as diverse as the city I served. I grew from a single agent to a group of professionals assisting with residential, commercial, luxury, and land. Now my network connects everywhere in North America, and my clients benefit from our global presence as well.

What I am most proud of since becoming a REALTOR® is discovering my personal mission to empower the next generation to create passive income through the strategic real estate and business ownership. In 2015, I became a Board Member of Keller Williams Kids Can (KWKC), a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides learning experiences for young adults ages 18-24. Our mission is to inspire big thinking, model wealth-building, and instill a passion for generous giving.

To date, I have been able to personally impact over 250 high school and college students through community workshops known as ‘Quantum Leap for Young Adults’. Selling real estate and giving back through education has provided a pathway to build community. The adults we help are the children we serve. Collectively, we have raised over $1 Million dollars and are expanding this course throughout the country by hosting national events known as QL Day.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy is not what I would call it at all. This journey has in many ways been different than I imagined. Recently, I made a decision that in order for me to continue to grow, I would need to change my environment and the conversations I allowed myself to be around.

In 2017, after Hurricane Harvey, my life took a slow yet significant shift. After 8 years in real estate, I found myself financially struggling as my business and mindset were impacted by the economic and mental wounds of the storm. Inventory dropped by almost 30% and juggling work, family, and mental health became overwhelming. It’s easy to feel like what you’re doing isn’t working or making an impact, it’s easy to feel like what you see – especially when discouraged – is an absolute of what will always be, that what you’ve worked to build is vulnerable to elements outside of your control. I’ve learned you will be tested professionally, personally, mentally, financially, and spiritually if you allow it; so how do you protect yourself from succumbing to failures? Fail fast, fail often, and fail forward.

I’ve learned that success is simple, not easy and no one succeeds alone. Despite how sexy entrepreneurship may look online, it really is a matter of executing on the basics consistently. A good friend once shared that we overestimate what we can accomplish in one year and drastically underestimate what we can achieve in five.

Your journey will require vision, clarity, and faith in what is unseen even when it looks dark. Being clear about the end goal is what will carry you, having something to go back to like a written plan and goals will provide a framework of baby steps to take on one at a time. That’s how you survive it not being easy, you create a plan of protocol and when in doubt, refer back to your manual. I encourage everyone to constantly write down why you started and what it (life, family, business, bank account, legacy, etc.) will look like when you finish. After all, you get what you deserve in your imagination! Don’t quit. Have the courage to say, “I need help”, over and over again. Life after Harvey has taught me that while we are all leading our own lives, we are very much connected. Learning from each other is just as important as serving one another.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own The Chasing Real Estate Group, a technology based real estate company in Houston, TX.  I leverage technology, artificial intelligence, and social media to provide a unique advantage to my clients that choose to sell and buy real estate in the Greater Houston area. Our group of professionals are available to assist in residential, commercial, luxury, investments and land. What makes what I do most unique is my service through education.  Every closing provides an opportunity to donate and give back to my community. I am a keynote speaker, a trainer, philanthropist and educator. I teach young adults how to thrive and bridge the gap between education and real life. I facilitate debt management and elimination courses. My passion for community, self-sufficiency, abundance, and mental health is what separates me from any other REALTOR® you’ll meet. I love what I do.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Houston yet moved a lot when I was a child. I learned to develop friendships quickly and adapted to new environments as it became a part of growing up.  I was an athlete, outgoing, and I loved to be a part of something bigger than myself. I always have had a heart to care for and encourage others. While in middle school my team was paired with mentors, athletes on the Women’s Basketball team at the University of Houston through a faith-based organization known as Fundamentals Ink. I knew through that experience that I always wanted to give back. I wanted to be a friend. Middle School was a challenge for me as it is for many children at that age, yet it was the relationships around me that kept me focused on not blending in, that encouraged me to dream bigger, and I always have. I believe there are parts of me as a child that attempted to fit in, felt inadequate, and feared my voice. Reflecting on that young girl now connects me to why I love to inspire others, especially at a young age to stand in confidence in who they are and developing the power of their voice.
