Meet Chassidy Reff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chassidy Reff.

Chassidy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So as a baby, my mother told me I sung Barney song like a grown person, made little jingles, wrote songs and sing whatever came to mind. I grew up singing in the church choir all my life. When I finally started taking my singing seriously, I believe my ever real first performance was playing in the “THE WIZ” one of the lead characters “Miss one” the good witch of the north at my old elementary school Whispering Hope. Growing up, it was kind of hard because I was going through a lot as a child and really wasn’t focused on singing a lot. But when I attended Dawson high school, that’s when I knew I could possibly get more than enough opportunities for singing. I joined choir and was able to learn how to read music how to sing opera and in different languages. It came down to the end of the school year and I finally built up enough courage to sing in my first pop show which was an awesome experience for me. After high school I then started getting invited out to sing for people and getting paid for it, I started getting in the studio a lot often and made my first song called “PAIN FREE” which isn’t out yet but will be pretty soon. I now attend TSU and am majoring in ERT which is entertainment radio management which is music. But overall, my passion for music is strong and all I ever want is for people to hear my voice and for God to use me!!!

Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, it has been obstacles in the way so far as me being consistent and patient, I’ve always seemed to rush things cause I hated how me, my momma and my baby brother were left to struggle by my dad, I’ve always tried finding ways to get money fast, that it caused me to start stealing and in that I did something horrible which caused me to go to jail and No not very proud of that but I felt like I’ve been in this music thing for a minute and nothing has gotten me or my family anywhere, but now that I’m older I prayed for forgiveness and a new start, I started getting back on my singing and many doors have been opening up for me ever since I’ve been doubted and still being doubted but my faith in Jesus is stronger then ever and that’s who I solely depend on, my mother and brother have been supporting me from jump so when I get there that’s who gets everything I have to offer. Another obstacle is my music I always struggle with questions in my head like are people gonna like what I put out, are people gonna like the details I put in my music so far as harmony, background singing and little stuff like that I always feel like it’s not gonna perfect enough but I realized everybody is not gonna like everything I do.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that I have so many opportunities here in Houston, I have room to grow and flourish And become whatever I want to be in the future. I literally have no dislikes about Houston only thing is miss my hometown, New Orleans.
