Today we’d like to introduce you to Chau Huynh
Hi Chau, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started @baseballmama_tx because I wanted a separate account to post pictures and videos of my boys playing baseball. Then one day I made a silly reel about how stressful it is to watch your son on a pitcher’s mound.. and the reel did pretty well! It dawned on me that there are a ton of baseball moms from all over who could relate to my family and I. In this chapter of our lives we are focused on our kids and their current interest is baseball. It’s hard for me to talk to some family or friends who don’t live the baseball life, so it was amazing to meet other families who we could connect with on that level. It mainly began with other baseball moms following me but now I have some baseball dads, players and coaches as well. It is a sense of community when you share the same passion: your kids + baseball.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely not a smooth road, growing followers takes time and a lot of work. Consistency is key. In the beginning I definitely had an hard time figuring out what to post and how much of our lives I wanted to share. My kids did not create or ask to be on this account; and neither did my teammates. I try to respect their privacy. Also, my page is public so I sometimes I get a few people who don’t agree with our life, and they like to voice their opinion. It’s completely fine because I’ve learned you can’t make everyone happy. However, the baseball family community is truly amazing and it outweighs any negativity thrown my way!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For the last 3 years I have worked full time in health insurance remotely. However, right now I am truly enjoying being a baseball mom content creator. I like to share our daily lives whether it be shopping for gear, going to practice or living at the fields during tournaments. I want to help other baseball moms who are new to the game (or veterans) navigate this life. When we first started baseball we went to a second hand store, bought a $10 dented bat and a really bad glove. We had no idea what we were doing. I would’ve loved someone to help point me in the right direction. I am really proud of the positive community I have created. I get messages all the time from moms and dads with baseball questions and if I am unable to answer the question – I can ask my fellow followers! It’s great that we can all help each other out. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid to poke fun of select ball. Look, there’s so many different aspects to poke fun at while still respecting the process. But my goal is to stay original, true to myself and help others along the way.
What makes you happy?
This is going to sounds so cliché but my family makes me happy. I’ve been through so many experiences in my life where I have truly learned to appreciate the people who matter the most. Before my boys started playing baseball, I never watched a game or stepped foot on a field. Once this became their passion, it was my passion too and I love that we now always have something to talk about and spend lots of time together doing!
