Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Dickson.
Chelsea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a little girl… I always loved fashion reading Vogue magazines and cutting the looks out that I loved and putting them in a scrapbook. I would style my friends in high school for fun but I loved making them feel beautiful it was honestly my little outlet. I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. I moved to Houston to further my knowledge in fashion. I attended and graduated from The Art Institute of Houston. I was always obsessed with people from London… the accents were so adorable to me I would do it with my friends and called myself Claire when I did the accents. I put my first name Chelsea with Claire and that’s how I created the name Chelsea Claire very corny but its a true story. The blog honestly started because I would always get compliments on my day to day looks so I was like ok chels lets get on it! I created my own website and just started showing my personal style, style sessions and closet revamp tours. I got to where I am today because I just stayed true to myself and I have never tried to change my style or who I am. That’s what “TheChelseaClaire” is all about…I live by it and my motto which is ” be true and be you” you can never go wrong in life when you’re genuine and true to who you are!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was definitely not smooth when I moved out here… Like I said before I’m from Baton Rouge and when I moved to Houston I was a kid.. fresh out of high school. Literally packed my bags and told my parents last minute I’m moving to Houston to go to college and study fashion no car no family just out here doing it! Going to school and working that’s all I was focused on my first year and stacking for my clothing line I was in a bad car accident with an 18 wheeler and saved that money worked with a girl from school on own collection… completed the collection and we were in the final stages to release it. The girl who was a friend of mine at the time and also business partner went MIA.. she took everything we worked on and my money that I put in stole every design and I was at my lowest point ever. I put all of my money and heart into that collection. I never speak on this because the case is still open and going on but I need to let people know especially young black girls trying to be better that you will fall and your dreams will seem far and hard to reach but there us light at the end of the tunnel for sure. I am nowhere near where I want to be or need to be but my collection will be released next year with fashion designer Mel Harris. I am very excited and can’t wait for people to see my vision!
The Chelsea Claire – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Chelsea Claire is my brand, I have a lot of creative things in the works for TCC. Currently, TCC consist of Fashion styling, Closet revamping, TCC wardrobe Hauls. I specialize in Fashion and I’m known for styling I actually am really excited for the release of my very own collection coming very soon and will be released on my website. What sets me apart from others is I’m not just about one look or type of person. I work with people of different shapes, sizes, style and gender! I LOVE fashion and it is my outlet to just dive into my creativity without any outside influences. TCC has so much more to offer and I am a work in progress but overall I’m blessed and proud of my progress.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when you don’t settle in life. Work everyday to build the future you want.
