Meet Chez McGavock of Canna Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chez McGavock.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2019, I started my self-development journey, I had some great jobs from being a Mechanical Engineer to Restaurant Manager but through all those jobs I didn’t feel fulfilled, something was missing. After looking at myself in the mirror, the answer was I was working on someone else’s dream. At that moment decided to find out what I was passionate about. I’ve always been proud to be from Houston (Alief) and a big fan/customer of Premium Goods in Rice Village. I have a lot of their Houston hats and shirts. I also am a big advocate of cannabis, I thought what if I bring both together and that’s where at the time Clutch City came about. I then mocked up a logo where I wanted the skyline of Houston inside the marijuana leaf and the name Clutch Cty Cannabis inside it. After I got my first sample I was in love and thought I could expand this to other cities, the name then changed to Canna City, and after talking to some friends I changed it for the last time to Canna Town. The reason is that we also want to provide special edition shirts to smaller towns as well.

Canna Town is a community of people that want to break the stigma that cannabis has. We want to be able to educate, feature fellow advocates and grow the cannabis community. So through our shirts, we bring town pride and the love for cannabis together. Our motto is “Wear Your Town Love Your Cannabis” Town pride bleeds through the whole concept of Cannna Town. For example, each logo design is designed by someone from that town, they also get to pick two logo/shirt combinations (our signature shirt is black with a white logo).

After procrastinating my launch for a while (small business owners dream of having a perfect product) I took the jump and launched our eCommerce site on September 8th, 2022. Ever since then the journey has been amazing. There have been peaks and valleys, money wasted, long nights, and sacrifices, and to be where I am now I wouldn’t change it. I’ve learned so much and to be able to have something tangible that I can is mine is an awesome feeling. I recommend everyone follow their dreams.

Now as of date sales arent where I would like them to be but to have my shirts being worn in South Africa, Spain, Canada, and over 10 states in the U.S. coast to coast I feel like I have already one. I know that if I stay focused and with the love and support of my support system I can’t fail.

Stay blazed my friend.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, but I look at obstacles/challenges as a learning experience instead of something negative. Some of the challenges I had were how do I even start the process of beginning a clothing brand. Would I ship the shirts myself or dropship? How to design a website that looks appealing to customers. How to make good social media content. I am green to this whole thing but every day I challenge myself to learn something new

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Canna Town?
A town with no physical address. A community of people that believe in the powers of cannabis. Whether it be used for medical, social, spiritual reasons, We can all agree that cannabis has played a significant role in our lives. Together we will change the negative perception of this magnificent plant and help with its progression of being used all over the world. We are a brand for the people, through our social media IG @canna__town420 we do a lot of engagement. Like giveaways, we do features and post others promoting the progression of cannabis and I also co-host an IG live with my friend and fellow small business owner Christina @copperandcojewelry show called The Hot Box (episode 11 is coming out on the 22nd) On the show we allow guest in the cannabis community to speak about how they play a part in the cannabis industry (educator, grower, influencer, patient)

What matters most to you?
God, to allow me to fulfill my passion I am ever so grateful. Also, my family and friends that have supported me without a strong team around me this journey would be a lot harder.
