Meet Chilonda Clebourn of Chilo-Entertainment in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chilonda Clebourn.

Chilonda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a woman on a mission to make a difference in my sphere of influence, and beyond. No matter what comes my way I know I am an overcomer! Born to a 13-year-old teenage girl who was the oldest of eight in a small town called Piqua, Oh. I had the cards stacked against me, an impoverished family and not much hope of success around me; but I always wanted more. I became involved in sports and that’s where I became competitive and learned how to push myself beyond my limits, to dig deeper to get first place, anything else was unacceptable. That drive has gotten me here where I am today. I’ve had many jobs in my life but being my own boss is by far the best job ever! Three and a half years ago, I decided to take a leap of faith, and left my cushy well paying job as a successful property manager, to pursue a career in entertainment and follow my dreams! That’s when “Chi” was born!

With little to no experience, I’ve always been a fast learner and can follow directions rather well. Since leaving my job, I went for it!! I launched my own radio show called Chilo-Radio on www.gospelradionation.com, TV show called Chi-Talk, that’s been aired on UHN, HMSTV and GMT.  I’ve been in over ten stage plays, a web series, and
two short films, one is on Amazon… and more, as well as many hosting gigs throughout Houston. I had the honor of being that Assistant Creative Director of the award winning touring stage play “Ain’t Always Been Save”. I’m a mother of three and wife amazing support from my Husband. I’m a minister at Faith International Church. My goal is to become a well-known actress, and International Inspirational Speaker, where my mission is to encourage, inspire, and ignite the fire in others!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worth having comes without challenges. Not only was my mother a young girl when I was born, but she also married a man that molested me for 16 years. That was something that was extremely difficult to overcome, but I refused to anyone’s victim. I advocate for the sexually abused, for I understand completely how it shapes and molds you but you can overcome! Your past is just that your past, leave it there!

Another challenge and obstacle I’ve had to overcome is doubt and fear. When I decided to start my own business, I had no money, only ambition! I never allowed lack to stop me, I used my resources to help me. I started my radio and TV shows with no capital. I figured out how to make these platforms pay for themselves.

Not being originally from Houston, I’ve worked hard to make a name for myself. Someone once told me a couple of years ago, I couldn’t charge for my services, because no one knew me…that drove me to prove them wrong, every single day I make sure I impact someone’s life in a positive way!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chilo-Entertainment – what should we know?
Chilo-Entertainment is a multi-media outlet. I am my brand, I am the “Chi” in Chilo-Entertainment! I host radio, & TV shows, conferences, fashion shows, empowerment events, etiquette workshops brunches and more. I’m also an actress and love being on the stage! I’m currently working on a production called “Before I Knew You”, a Nubian Butterfly production, it’s focus is on domestic violence and the power of our words! That is set to hit the stage April 25-28, 2019 at the Encore Theater, tour dates TBA. I’ve recently joined forces with my amazing Co-hosts on the Unplugged Radio Show Sundays 2-4 pm on www.gospelradionation.com. Every third Sunday, I host the Sunday Brunch Unplugged, where we showcase some of Houston’s hottest and amazing talented Gospel and Inspirational Artists!

I’ve recently launched my Mary Kay business as a Beauty Consultant!! I get to help women build self-confidence and self-esteem each and every day!

No matter if I’m hosting a show, acting or directing a stage play or movie, or in someone’s living room pampering them or preaching the word of God. My ultimate goal is to encourage, inspire and ignite the fire in you!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family means everything to me, my children give me the drive to keep going. My husband gives me great insight and direction. My pastors play a HUGE part in my success story. My pastor told me a few years ago “Chi you’re going to be in media.” I had no idea what that meant I just believed and it happened!! I have a great support system in the owners of Gospel Radio Nation, where I started my first radio show with no experience just belief in myself and the Lord I serve. I’m forever grateful!
