Today we’d like to introduce you to Chino Angles.
Chino, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been into photography since I was a young child. My dad had a film camera that I would take from his office and take it to school. Of course, I didn’t know how a camera worked; I just liked that it did work. Fast forward to November of 2016, and I bought my first camera before my birthday, a Canon Rebel T5. I didn’t start taking pictures until February 2017. I went to my early photography meet up with my godbrother and mentor, Francis Bassey, and I fell in love with it. I started taking pictures and learning how to edit and take better photos. Now to 2018, I got into Fashion Photography because I love both fashion and photography. I used to be a fashion merchandising and design student, but due to reasons put out by my parents, I had to change my major to Business Administration. So with my love for fashion, particularly women’s style, I decided to cement myself as a fashion photographer, and its been going great so far.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I’ve had a few bumps here and there. I am occasionally having a lot of creative blocks due to the environment where I’m at or certain personal issues going on in my life. I just got into the business aspect of photography and let me be the first to tell you; it takes a lot of effort and time. Nonetheless, things are falling in place, and things will continue to fall in place.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As stated before I am a Freelance Fashion Photographer, I take a lot of editorial style pictures. I get my inspiration from Jessica Kobeissi; I am a HUGE fan of her work and style. For the most part, with my clients or models, I style them; I do a lot of high-end fashion styles. I pay attention to a lot of different ways to take pictures of the model. I pay close attention to the angles and composition of the photoshoots. I use wide-angle lenses for my photoshoots, and I firmly believe wide-angle lenses make fashion photography look a lot better than using prime lenses. I did turn my passion into a business and so far its been going pretty well. I do care about my clients and customers, and I do my best to communicate well with them, making sure they are comfortable. My client’s comfort is my number one priority. Having healthy communication with clients builds better business relationships.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about Houston, and I don’t plan on leaving Houston. My number one goal is to open a studio office here in Houston and network with other industry creatives in the city. But if there is one thing I don’t like, it is the traffic, and that needs no explanation.
