Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiyanti Aiken-Brown.
Chiyanti, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Chiyanti (She-Yahn-Tee) and I am a Singer/Songwriter, Musician, Music Producer, and Actress. In October of last year, I released my first single, “Space” on SoundCloud. Space is a song about needing Space from people around you and sometimes taking some time to just breathe. I had around 600 followers on Instagram at the time. When the beginning of March of this year came around, I decided to start singing on Instagram Talent Shows as a way to showcase my talent. One night I somehow landed my way into a talent show with Shiggy, creator of the Keke Dance to Drake’s hit single. I didn’t know who Shiggy was at the time, but when I saw he had 800 + people in his Instagram live and over 2.2 million people on his page, I knew he was somebody. I was in his live continuously, commenting for him to add me. When he added me, I sang Space on the piano for him and he went crazy.
After I got off and left, he sent his followers to go find me and sing for him again. Well, a few days later, he posted our video on his Instagram page and it gained over 200,000 views in under 72 hours. People started looking for me left and right and my following went up from about 600 to about 4,000 people. Shortly after this, maybe about 2-3 weeks after singing for Shiggy, my song started to gain increasing popularity due to the entire world going into quarantine. Everyone literally needed some “Space.” A lot of people even started dubbing the song the “Corona Anthem.” After this, I started singing at multiple talent shows and for many major celebrities on Instagram Live. I’ve sang for celebrities such as K Michelle, Jazze Pha, Trae the Truth, Elle Varner, Reginae Carter Comedian Lil Rel, DJ Hed, Sway in The Morning, Lady Luck, Shekinah, Zoey Dollaz, Avery Wilson, Tokyo Vanity, Jessie Woo, Inayah Lamis, YoYo and many more. Today my following has grown to 13.8 and counting. You can find both of my singles, Space and Separate Ways, available on all platforms.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It seems like everything has been happening so fast for me. I’ve snowballed one just a few months. I just traveled to New York this weekend and got stopped in the airport by a major music producer at Universal Records asking me if I sing and if I’m the girl they saw on Reginae Carter’s live. I didn’t think my reach was growing the way it is! I’ve been writing music for years, I actually wrote Space in 2013 and now the song is taking off. The struggles would have to be just being consistent throughout all the years and never giving up until you reach your moment!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Singer-Songwriter, Music Producer, Musician and Actress and I’m known for writing and composing really good songs. I usually write R&B, Hip Hop, Country and Gospel music. My goal is to be one of the greatest celebrity songwriters and music producers of my generation and of all time. I’m proud of the way my music is being received by all audiences and the way I’ve been able to make a name for myself. I write for upcoming artists seeking to get discovered and for major artists as well. What sets me apart is my heart and passion for music and to change lives with music and also the fact that I believe this is a God-Given gift that I have do write music and not just a hobby or something I likes doing.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success with being able to do what you love and achieving wealth and happiness in all aspects of your life with it. Success is setting the highest bar for yourself in life and reaching it. Then once you reach it, setting a higher bar for yourself and reaching it again and so on. Right now my goal is to get a record deal, put out my debut album, and to write for major celebrity artists like Lizzo, Cardi B, Beyoncé. Alicia Keys, Ari Lennox, Jhene Aiko and more. And I’m just putting in the work to achieve that.
