Meet Chris Casto and Mike Cox of Cox Bail Bonds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Casto and Mike Cox.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After I graduated high school, I worked for all different sorts of jobs in different industries while going to college. After doing that a couple years, I found myself unemployed and skating along in college. One night I was on the phone with my aunt Marcella and asked her how my uncle Mike was doing. Long story short, she told me he was stressed out with several employees and other business-related issues. So right there I got on the phone with him and asked if he could use some help, and the rest was history… Right away working with my uncle it instantly collaborated perfect! Growing up, I always looked up to him and admired his aura of a successful businessman. He was tough yet the coolest guy, and that is how we run this business… Bail bonds is a very risky, cut-throat, complex yet rewarding business if monitored correctly. I owe it most importantly to my uncle Michael Wayne Cox and other trusted mentors who showed me how to write a good bond, make sure each bond is accounted for, how to deal with people who jump bond, how to deal with judges, lawyers, cops, private investigators, our insurance company and several other factors that keep the ball rolling! Over the past 4 years, I’ve absorbed knowledge like a sponge and quickly began taking matters into how my hands such as marketing, running the office and watching every little thing that happens. Of course, with the help of Mike as he keeps the strings attached and I take notes. I can’t wait to see my future self and see where my game will be….

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As far as the job itself, it took a little while to truly work independent and know what I’m doing. But as far as the industry, bail bonds is insane! One minute I’m taking $20,000 down on one single bond, next minute we have some guy who jumps bond and takes off to another state or country and puts us on the hook for $150,000 because he’s facing 25 years in prison! Bail bonds is not meant for most people. In fact, some people hate this service…. until their ass is in jail! Honestly, we’re basically rolling the dice that people will face their day in court and pay us for being on bond. It’s confusing until you find yourself in jail on something either big or small, you wanna get out, right? Well, according to the eight amendment, you’re allowed a bond and can bail out until your case is done. It’s all about accountability for us.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cox Bail Bonds – what should we know?
I’m not going to lie, bail bonds has a bad image from other people who make us look bad. But we actually serve a vital importance in today’s society. At Cox Bail Bonds, we pride ourselves on being a truly honest bail bond company with integrity and ethics. We make sure defendants make it their court dates and by being on “bond” this allows a person who has been arrested to get out of jail and fight their case from the outside. In fact, the eight amendment protects our business “thou shall not receive an excessive bail nor cruel punishment”. The name Cox Bail Bonds has been around for 33+ years and we have been helping generations of families. We are known to treat people fairly, give you a good price and overall make sure you are aware of what you need to do. As my uncle says, “it takes years to build a great reputation, and seconds to destroy.”

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Micro Management. Tough. Friendliness. Accountability.
