Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Jones.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first started welding at a billboard company in Arlington TX. I really enjoyed it so I decided I wanted to go to Lincoln College of Technology to become AWS certified and pursue a welding career. Going to college 5 days a week and work 40 hours a week is no easy task. Shortly after completing college I came down to Houston in hopes of working in the oil and gas industry which I did for several years. When oil and gas declined I was forced to take jobs in a small job shop setting. To make up for income loss I purchased my first welder and starting working in the evenings and on weekends. From that point I realized how many people are in need of small welding jobs and started purchasing more and more equipment till eventually we had everything a welding shop should have. I made the move to a new location and became incorporated. We now contract only quality welders to execute client needs. We strive to keep our quality up to the best in the industry no matter how small the job is.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the hardest struggles I faced was supporting a family and knowing that one wrong move could impact my family drastically. Welding is my passion but when it came to the business side I had a lot to learn. From advertising, hiring contractors, and learning a new POS system I had to open my mind. Taking knowledge from other business owners and research became my life line. Support from friends and family truly has taken me to the next level.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CJ Welding & Fabrication – what should we know?
I am a small business owner so most of the time clients talk directly to me. This ensures they get exactly what they want. We weld everything from Aluminum, Stainless, Carbon, Inconel and more. We also custom fabricate anything a client desires.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I was raised with an old school mentality that knows hard work and determination is the key to success. That combined with treating our clients one on one and not like a number. The personally relationship created with each and every client helps drive the business.
