Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was young, I wanted to be a cowboy, but living in Houston, that dream wasn’t very practical… but my love of cowboy boots never wavered. I got my first job out of high school as an apprentice under Mike Kirkendahl at Tejas Custom Boots back in 2000.
16 years later, when Mike decided it was time to finally hang it up and retire, I decided to buy the company, to make sure that Tejas Custom Boots would still be around to make great quality, one of a kind boots for generations to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been very challenging…. as boot making is a dying art. Young men like myself are not coming up in this business wanting to learn this trade. It’s been really tough to find experienced boot makers.
