Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Tillman.
Christian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born in the gritty streets of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn in the 90’s, raised by my Nana and groomed by the Methodist Church, with a family filled with fine artist of many genres, I took a strong liking to Graphic Design quite naturally. I couldn’t help it, my surroundings were jam packed with creative juices. From the wall art created by local artists, to the Subway Stations littered with hidden gems of eager musicians ready to perform for you just for the simple love of what they do. I was easily drawn in to the world of creativeness that was lying at my finger tips from the very beginning.
Cartoons were a huge inspiration for me becoming a Graphic Designer. I picked up my first laptop in my teenage years, right before graduating high school and it was history ever since. I started drawing those cartoon characters I loved, loaded those pictures in to Photoshop and colored them in. I became hooked, self-teaching myself any and every design technique I thought was cool, and before I knew it people in my neighborhood thought my designs were cool too! I was doing designs for my friends and as I got older, I designed for local clients that owned businesses. People were requesting me to design their logos, webpages, flyers, business cards, t-shirt designs; you name it, I designed it! Once I seen how in demand my design practice was, I felt it was necessary to start my own Freelance Graphic Design brand, Chrisxtillman® Studio.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a Freelance Graphic Designer in general is difficult. The “dry spells” between clients cause self-doubt, but you push through and stay focused. I’ve wanted to throw in the towel numerous amounts of times but haven’t because I’ve worked hard to reach this level. My brand keeps me going, I enjoy creating brand identities for people. I enjoy helping brands exist!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Chrisxtillman® is a small graphic design studio that specializes in all things graphic design. Logo design, print design (flyers, business cards, book covers, t-shirts, brochures or any other printed designs), web design/development, branding and more. Any graphic designs a company needs, I can create. My designs are vibrant and eye-catching, a little different from what you normally see out there. I purposefully create my designs so they stand out. I’m proud of brand and seeing others appreciate the hard work I’ve put in to this, that’s what keeps me motivated and continuously working hard in my field.
I am contracted by brands/companies throughout the year. This past 2017 year was successful and I was contracted to design for the World Series of the MLB (Major League Baseball)!
