Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Martinez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for photography started early on. Like most adolescent girls, I took my point and shoot camera everywhere I went. I took all the mirror selfies, artsy photos, photos of my friends, and more. This fun hobby eventually translated over to my extracurricular activities in school, like being a staff reporter for our high school newspaper and yearbook. These skills carried me to a staff position on my college newspaper, a sports photography internship with our athletics department, co-founding our athletics broadcast program and a photojournalism internship with my local ABC station.
Thanks to those early newsroom days, I later went on to except an editor position for a Houston newspaper as my first job out of college.
I worked in the Houston media field for five years and at the heart of my work was storytelling. I told the stories of local people and places. I shared their words and photographed their spirit.
In 2019, I went out on my own to launch my very own PR and Marketing firm, Christina Martinez Consulting. For the past three years, I have worked with incredible local business owners, giving creative direction to tell their story in a meaningful way.
Within my three years, I have grown in so many ways. The standout is how I have learned and acknowledged my strengths and allowed myself to lean into them. I have officially pivoted to wedding and portrait photography. While there is some grief in saying goodbye to clients I so dearly love, I take heart in knowing the important piece they each have played in helping me take this next step in my career.
In March 2022, I officially launched Christina Martinez Photography. I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Houston, creating experiences rooted in authenticity. Whether you’re getting engaged, marrying your soulmate, celebrating new milestones, or taking time to remember the special, everyday moments, I can’t wait to capture your joy!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Leading up to my launch, I had so many unanswered questions around my offerings, my pricing, the backend of my business, and more. I felt confident in operating my business and the financial logistics, but there was still so much for me to learn in the photography business space. Eventually, I hired a mentor, Anna Wright. I did a three months intensive mentorship with her and we worked through all of my questions and she even reviewed and advised over my materials leading up to my launch. It was the best investment to help set a strong foundation for myself and my business and I’ve made a lifelong friend from it, too.
I know there will be obstacles and challenges along the way, but I’m committed to continuous learning at every stage of my business. I’m confident that mindset will help my business and growth flourish.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Creating wedding experiences for couples is where my passion lies. My photography is for the laid-back couple who values being present on their wedding day.
Along with weddings, I am also a portrait photographer for couples, families, or just you.
Authenticity is one of my core values and the guiding light for my business. Embracing imperfections and loving yourself as who you are is at the core of my work. When we embrace our imperfections, I believe our inner beauty shines bright and that is what I hope to capture for my clients.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see more authentic moments in our future. Less posed photos and more moments of being present with your closest family and friends. That’s the change I hope to create with my business!
