Meet Christina Trout of Trout Tire & Trailers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Trout.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In August of 1981, My father in law, Larry Trout, and my pappy Glen Trout decided to open this tire store. Eventually they started selling trailers, and doing front end work. Larry Trout and His wife Judith Trout ran this shop for over 30 years with few employees. They bought over the building that once had some parts house and a dry cleaner located inside. In 2004, my husband Brian Trout decided to come work for his dad and learn the business and add to it. We are now able to install bumper & gooseneck hitches, trailer repairs, truck accessories, custom wheels, etc.

In December of 2007, I came to work for my in laws and learn whatever I can to help out. We’ve pretty much outgrown ourselves and decided to open another location in Point Blank, it has its country feel and country pace. My father in law used to haul trailers and pick up antique phones along the trip, He collects a majority of things that were inspired from family members, such an antique Texaco gas pumps, to old fashion cameras to match his old fashion values, every model car pretty much made. Even pictures of when this town was developing and before. There is so much history in this place for our customers to browse and bring them back in time. Even some have noticed their parents in old pics hanging on the wall. Now we have third generation helping and learning morals & values in life, to give to the community, be honest, forgive, love your neighbor and work hard for what you want in life. We’re celebrating 36 years this year and it is an awesome opportunity to share my father in law’s legacy in our area. What a blessing to have this business and have the whole family working together.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The winter months would be slow, we could only hope for a good summer sales to extend thru the winter. Sometimes even borrow money. My father in law invested his own money at times for trailer sales & inventory.

I know my father in law didn’t even take pay at times. You can only imagine working with family can be a struggle at times. More pro’s then con’s anyway.

Outgrowing our little place and having to turn people away because there is no room or man power.

Trout Tire & Trailers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are Christians for one. Proud of it too. We love to help out people and give people that are not so fortunate a chance, a stepping stone per say. We love helping kids in FFA.

If a lady comes and needs a battery in her vehicle and we don’t usually do that work, we will make time for it.

We take the customer out back to view their bad parts so they can see for themselves and explain to anyone what each part does or how it interacts with other parts.

Be Honest, Be fair.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Just being a mom and pop shop and making it this far, especially when competing with all the big chains.

It’s almost every day that we hear a customer was referred to us. Word of mouth is key.

Opening our 2nd location, and building a shop in my back yard to help the tire store expand without moving to fit the needs and serve more people.

We transport trailers to the shop and trailer over flow sales to keep our shop open and accessible.

If I lived there your shop would have my business. We need mom and pop shops to come back in America, back to where people are caring. Thank you for what you do for America and the families.
