Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Sheeren And Dan O’Keefe.
Hi Christine Sheeren and Dan O’Keefe, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Dan’s mother started the company in her backyard doing children’s portraits. After a few years she moved to the location on Bellaire Blvd and Dan started working with her. In 2006 he took over as the owner, and in 2008 hired Christine. Dan started doing photos when he was a kid, went to A&M for undergrad then UT for law school. Once he realized he wouldn’t be able to practice the kind of law he wanted, he came to work with his mom at the studio. Christine is from New Orleans and has a degree from the University of New Orelans. She was working at a camera shop and freelancing when Katrina happened and she ended up in Houston. She was working at the Tasting Room when Dan came in to do an engagement session and the rest is history!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a small business in a luxury industry has definitley had its ups and downs. We usually go with the economy as poeple don’t spend extra when things are tight and vise versa. Luckily we do portraits and events so there was always enough business to sustain us. We had grown to the best years we had ever had before COVID happened. We are making our way back, but still are in sync with the current economy.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The studio is known for natural light, outdoor, more photojournalistic portraits. We have also become one the top mitzvah photographers in the city. Christine specializes in maternity and newborn photos and is most proud of how much she’s improved in that area. Dan enjoys senior sessions, and making them personal to that graduating senior. I think our personalities are what set us apart and keep clients for years! Next year we are doing a wedding for a girl we did her bat mitzvah, and Christine is doing a bar mitzvah for a boy that she photographed as a newborn.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We have a lot of clients that live in this west university/Bellaire community. We always donate to silent auctions for the schools and organizations in this community. We would love to collaborate with any doctors offices that work with new moms and babies. We bring senior flyers to the schools that we already photograph a lot of their seniors.
