Meet Christopher Allen of C Allen Photos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Allen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christopher. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first picked up a camera during my marketing and A&R internship through Music World Entertainment in Houston (2002-2003.) Our management company and record label was home to Destiny’s Child, Solange, and a host of other artists. When I first picked up the camera I was filming everything from rehearsals to company industry parties. I really got bit by the media bug after filming our Music World Super Bowl Party where we had power hitters from Beyonce, Russell Simmons, Rev Run, and a host of many top celebrities.

For me, the camera provided exclusive access and behind the scenes to some of the most exclusive events. As social media grew in popularity I realized there was a great need for photography, video, and documentation. I started C. Allen Media to meet the needs of people who needed my skills to promote there businesses and brands. When I wanted to focus directly on photography I started C. Allen Photos. It has taken studying the behaviors of social media, and people to understand what type of photography is needed for which client.

I think it has taken an unstoppable attitude and desire to help as many people I could to reach their potential. I like to think that my photography and video services help highlight some of our talented artists in the city of Houston. Some of my proud moments are shooting for Yolanda Adams, Motivational Speaker Les Brown, rapper Common, and up and coming comedian Eddie B. Eddie B was one of my first clients and we are now touring nationally.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. With social media at the forefront of business. Many people like to present perfection and finish products but reality doesn’t work that way.

When I decided to quit my 9-5 job and choose full-time entrepreneurship I was excited, careful, and ready for the challenge. As an artist, you are always trying to find a balance between your artwork and making ends meet by making sure your bills are paid. When your artwork is your full-time employment sometimes you have to educate your customers on what you bring to the table. Most photographers are quiet, laidback, and technical. Not me. I am a people’s person. I like to see people have a great time and I like to see everyone taking pictures even with there smartphones.

A second obstacle I am faced with it working to change the face of what photographers can do. Yes, we take pictures but I am a photographer that wants to transform the whole room into photographers. With technology advances, we have to evolve as photographers. I’m ready to pass on the experiences I have acquired as a professional event photography to everyday people by teaching them how to take pictures, and property shoot video all while using their smartphones.

C Allen Photos – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The name of my business is C. Allen Photos. I am an event photographer who enjoys covering comedy shows, social gatherings, celebrity photography, and personal photographers for Authors, comedians, and influencers. I’m most proud of my new endeavor The C. Allen Photography Experience. I am now picking up the microphone and hitting the stage in a set performance where I can through photography techniques using their phones.

I believe that everyone has an inner photographer within them. Social media is about sharing, and our phones have some of the best cameras around. Instead of one photographer in the room, I am transforming the room into photographers. The result is fun and more fun. My goal is to continue to enhance my client’s events by more social interaction. I believe my ability to use technology to connect all the people in the room sets me apart from other photographers.

I’m breaking down the stereotype of photographers only sit behind a camera. We are doing amazing things and people are loving it. The first time I did the C. Allen Photography Experience I was booked for a business mixer and I had every lady there meet and greet someone by taking selfies. This allowed them to meet people they probably wouldn’t have networked with. I’m excited about what’s to come.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as setting a goal or writing down your vision. The moment that you can honestly say you are living that vision in realtime you can claim success. Most people look at money as a determination of success. I look at money as a byproduct of success but true success is how many people you influence with your ideas and movements.

I believe I am what I speak and I am successful because I am a creator and a teacher. True success is also when you are able to pass on your knowledge to others and it is received. When people tell me they had a great experience with C. Allen I then know I did a great job.
