Meet Christopher Williams of BPM Music Group in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Williams.

Christopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been called the man with many talents. Former Collegiate and Professional baseball player turned Music Executive and Professor. Got my start in the music industry as a drummer for my grandfathers church at the age of 13. My mother was a music lover and so my siblings and I were forced into listening to music. The love grew and on my way to college, I decided to enter into the dj world and from there is where my musical journey really took off. Coming back and forth to Houston from Prairie View A&M I had a bad car accident. This allowed me to focus more on my passion for music greatly and baseball was a wash after failed attempts after rehab. Here is a little transparency, I got my first weekly residency DJ’s at a lesbian bar in Houston. A year or two later started networking in the city while working as a Commercial Sales Rep at ADT and landed another weekly residency doing the first Monday Night Football concept that grew all over the country. Hosted at the former House staple, Cabo’s before moving over to Dave and Busters. This lead to touring and dj’n major concerts and private events in Texas. Still growing and while on tour, I wanted to be more involved in the artistry but not be the artist. Started doing small concerts and grew into co- promoting large shows in the Houston and Dallas areas. This lead to my dream job, working at a record label. I got the opportunity to work for Mathew Knowles (Beyonce Knowles -Carter dad). Went from a digital coordinator to VP of Artist Management to Label Head. Moved on in 2013 and started my current label BPM Music Group and became a professor of music business at Houston Community College.

A lot of insteresting stories in between, but wanted to be brief!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No smooth road. A few challenges along the way such as, loyalty of those that work with you, being discouraged and overcoming that and waking up and doing things intentionally or on purpose so that you’re successful.

Let’s talk about business. Tell us about BPM Music Group, LLC – what should we know?
DJ/Music Executive/Professor. Our company is BPM Music Group LLC and Beats Per Minute MG Publishing, Indi based label that offers label services for new and seasoned musical talents. Our niche is that we educate our talent through the journey and we are true partners, in addition, we offer artist development, a lost service !!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First, my mom and dad, but mainly my mother for giving the entrepreneur gene. She taught me the true meaning of hard work. Mathew Knowles (Music Executive), Aubrey Tucker (Music Educator), Krystal Studavent (VP of Marketing and Sales at Music World Entertainment), Avery Sunshine (Artist), Eric Roberson (King of Soul), Gary Guidry (Promoter)just to name a few, have all been mentors through this journey. Lastly, my wife has truly put me in the right frame of mind both mentally and spiritually and that is something that is so propelling to me.
