Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Siegel.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Registered Dietitian and Whole30 Coach who’s all about balancing my real food, veggie-heavy approach to nutrition with my deep love of cheeseburgers, chocolate, and red wine.
I call myself a “realist dietitian” because it most adequately sums up my approach to nutrition and healthy living. There are so many ways to eat yourself to good health, and they’re all rooted in real food. My job on The Petite Professional blog and in my work as a nutrition coach is to help my readers and clients navigate those many healthy paths, so you can find what works uniquely for them.
I’ve spent my whole life determining my healthy path and, through that, creating my confidence. I grew up chubby and spent the decade between ages 13 and 23 on a diet. I counted calories, tracked macros, logged Points, punished myself through exercise, the works. It wasn’t until I started my career as a dietitian (and after I did several Whole30s) that I got back in touch with the basics of health — real food, intuitive eating, and regular movement for enjoyment.
I started my career as an RD in 2014 working for Snap Kitchen in the Houston market. I had a little office inside of their Kirby location. After about two years, I relocated to Austin to lead nutrition for the healthy startup. I grew so much in this role that, in the summer of 2018, I decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship. Since then, I’ve launched my 12-week online nutrition coaching program, Nutritional Freedom. In NF, I work with women who are stuck in the diet-binge-guilt cycle create their own effortlessly healthy, completely confident lifestyle through a real food approach to nutrition.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When it came to starting my own business, I worked hard and got very lucky. That being said, the short road has already been full of twists, turns, and massive learning curves to overcome. As any small business owner knows, fighting off the feeling of overwhelm can be difficult. I have to fight through the temptation of the analysis paralysis involved in every business decision (of which there are many) to simply get stuff done and keep progressing.
To ensure that I don’t stagnate or get too overwhelmed, I’ve started the practice of setting clear 90-day goals. I journal these days as if they’ve already happened, and then I write down 3 action items that I can do TODAY to get me closer to my goals. It really helps shrink the mountain of getting my business off the ground and growing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Petite Professional – what should we know?
My business is The Petite Professional, and my coaching program is called Nutritional Freedom. I’m a Registered Dietitian and Whole30 Coach with a “realist” approach to health and wellness. Through my own journey to a healthy relationship with food, I’ve seen how getting this aspect of my life under control has really helped me in other areas: gaining self-confidence, investing in the right relationships, and even advancing my career.
I work with women who are sick of being in the diet-binge-guilt cycle and are ready to finally feel at home in their bodies. We focus a lot on healthy mindset, a non-fussy approach to real food, and finding the physical activity you actually love so that living healthy every single day doesn’t feel so dang hard.
I’m most proud of the transformations my clients undergo, both physically and mentally. When they message me to tell me that their clothes are fitting better, they’re feeling more confident in a bikini in public, are feeling more energy or are even of a variety of meds, I feel so incredibly grounded in my purpose that I can hardly believe it.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Snap Kitchen was an incredible place to start my career. Working at a growing healthy food start-up meant that I was able to experience far more than the average 20-something would ever get to do under normal circumstances. I’m eternally grateful to the Snap Kitchen team for trusting me and providing a company for me to grow within.
