Meet Colt Cassidy of Double A, 33 Degrees in South East/Clear Lake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colt Cassidy.

Colt, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, to start, I’ve never told the story of my origins before, so it’s going to sound kind of weird at first. But you know the story of Jesus of Nazareth? It’s kind of like that. I was born that nigga. Then, I got booted out of heaven and brought into this thing we call life.

I grew up to the outside world what seemed a typical suburban life. Mom, Dad, siblings, dog the whole nine. But in reality, I always felt like the black sheep trying to fit the mold. Fast forward through adolescence, I’m two years into college and that’s when I realized I didn’t want to pay someone to tell me or even be told what to do with my life anymore. So, I left. The good part is, I met my new best friend/producer/fellow rapper/business partner back in high school and reconnected with him during my college years.

He literally forced me to get on the mic and rap. To be honest, at first, I was hot garbage, but I fell in love. Being able to say anything or how you really felt about a subject was pure magic to me. I’ve always loved music and always been fascinated with all forms of art in general. But never got the chance growing up to showcase my artistic talents. Especially coming from a family of athletes, I felt like that was the path always projected onto me.

I felt like I was destined to do something more than just throw or catch a ball. I feel like I’m destined to do something great with my life and throughout the past couple of years working & perfecting my craft, I feel like I can do that through my music (Double-A Records). Spending Countless hours inside the studio week after week, traveling city to city, trying to tell my story and change what it means to be a rapper from the city of Houston.

That’s my story, I’m here to change the game.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hell, nah, it’s been super fucking easy, total cake-walk. I’m pretty much the male Beyoncé at this point.

Lol, get the hell out of here, this is literally mission impossible. Do you know how many people want to be rappers? Think about all the wannabe rappers that you know… how many have made it? How many will ever make it? Even if you said our chances are slim to none, that would be way too generous. If we make it, that means we did the impossible. But that doesn’t scare me. We know what to expect, and anything worth doing has always had ups and downs.

But coming into the game is one of the hardest parts of making music. Getting used to your voice and deciding the type of artist you want to be. Shit, I still haven’t figured that part out yet, and even that can change in a moments notice. Andy taught me to just follow my voice, and if I do that, I won’t ever regret it. But like I said, not everybody is blessed with the team I have, and not everybody will put in the countless hours we spent working on the shit. So, I don’t know what it’s like to not be in the cut, I live for this.

Between the dreadful shows with no crowds, getting scrubbed by promoters, living on the road, no money or job, long periods of time away from family, and the general feeling of social ineptitude of society, the journey so far has been rocky, to say the least. But no matter what, I trust our music… so, I know I’ll be alright. We’re dope as fuck.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Double-A, 33 Degrees – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Double A Records. 33 Degrees. Dub.

Doesn’t matter what the name is, we’re the hardest working people in the universe. Music, clothes, tattoos, videos, editing, production, skating, parties, you name it, we probably do it. D-I-fucking-Y. And contrary to popular belief, we do it all ourselves because we want to. We can’t trust anybody else to portray the way we are, because I don’t want us to be like anybody else. So, we do EVERYTHING from the ground up, that way the resulting product never has a choice. It HAS to be 100% us because it IS 100% us.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Nothing too crazy, just staying on the road. We have to keep trying to live our life because it keeps the creativity flowing. No matter what, we’re going to earn the respect of our city one way, or another. With or without them. That’s just the way it is. So, as far as big changes go, I ain’t worried about me. Hopefully, the only change that happens is that the world finally catches up to us.
