Meet Constance Conroy Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Constance Conroy Paul.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Exposure to fine art at a young age influenced me as a painter today. I attended private schools in Europe and study fine art and design at Purdue University. I am impacted by strong use of color impact and bring that forth in my oil paintings. I used various techniques such as palette knife, small and large brushes to expression the emotional energy of a subject.

I have an energetic personality and it comes out as I paint. I am more concerned with expressing the feeling and the emotion of a subject than depicting the perfect image. I love flowers, old trucks, and funky barn buildings which I find myself painting daily. I want a subject to stand out and be noticed so I use outlining to bring definition to certain points in each painting I go out on location to find a scene I want to paint, painting pleine air but finishing it off in my studio. My fine oil paintings are whimsical, funky, and a bit quirky. I naturally paint this way because it’s colorful, happy and fun.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is truly fun and colorful no matter what subject I paint. I look at things slightly different, with rose colored glasses. Because my goal is give a certain feeling to my viewers I combine a lot of unique colors together. I want to make people happy when they look at my paintings, to feel a sense of joy and to laugh a bit.

I use several coats of paint when laying down the image. It’s a layering system the seems to get thicker and thicker as a keep painting daily. It can take me up to 3 months to finish a small oil painting. Sometimes while one painting is drying I will start on another painting.

I have expressive style which is quite a unique Contemporary Impressionism having a loose fresh freedom with painterly touch. These paintings can mix with traditional and modern homes.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
We have many more opportunities to show and sell our work as artists. Houston area wants to support the artist by having more art studios available and many more festivals and art shows to sell at.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
