Hi Corine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Corine and I am the CEO & founder of SKEN Essentials. I founded this skin care line originally for my newly teenage daughter. I realized there is not ample products on the market that are clean and catered to melanin skin. I wanted to provide something for her glowing skin. As I started to use it myself, I realized this is a product for everyone. Hence the birth of the line.
SKËN. Essentials is a luxury skincare line with melanin in mind. Enhanced formulations to bring health and vitality to men and women of color. From daily cleanses to hair growth oil our goal is to provide products that are better absorbed to restore nature’s balance.
As the owner, my overall focus is to share health, wellness, and beauty within my community. This line was created for my little princess, to provide her young skin with the nourishment she needs to enhance her glow. Melanated skin is different and should be cared for with grace. Each product has been studied to enhance the glow in our melanin.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many challenges, especially with launching this line in 2019 right before the pandemic. Starting a company, self funded, is not the easiest. There are times you want to quit, you can’t. There are times you want to change direction, don’t. The hardest part is staying the course during the lean season.

This truly is a skincare line that was gifted by God. I have a fitness smoothie busy and one night I was woken up around 3am with a vision of a logo.
Woke up, went to my laptop and created the logo. At the time I wasn’t sure what it was for. It didn’t sound like it went for your supplement line. Later that week my daughter came to me crying about her skin. We started to search for products that might help. Soon after my developers contacted me and asked if I have ever thought about a skin care line. They sent me some samples and the product started from there. I tweaked the line till it was effective for my daughter and this is how the line started.

I am most proud of my customers that see the value in the product and return to order. This is for them. I am thankful for the support and pleased to know it has worked for thousands of people.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
There has not been many risks on the skincare side. But my smoothie business (That Stuff Nutrition) has seen a lot. I am dedicated and obsessed with seeing all of my companies grow.
I believe to be an entreprenHER. There are risks that are required. But you can’t be afraid to take a leap for your business. The goal is to keep your mind on the goal and do what is required to reach that goal.
