Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Wilson.
Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was younger, it was always a dream to be a wedding planner, such a gorgeous and glamorous job! But after college, I joined AmeriCorps NCCC, while serving as a tutor in Anchorage, AK at The Boys and Girls Club, I fell in love with helping children, seeing the light come on when they figured something out, and the joy learning brought to them. When my AmeriCorps time had come to an end, I came home and acquired my teaching license. I taught for 13 years as a kindergarten and 2nd grade teacher.
I adored what I did and spending my days with my sweet kiddos. Then came my own wedding… I found a joy I hadn’t had before, in planning all the small details and making my vision come to life. The more planned out and organized I was, the more I wanted to do. It was one of the best times of my life. I absolutely loved every aspect of it, after my wedding was over I realized how much I missed planning my wedding. I had found the perfect outlet for a talent I had been cultivating my whole life.
I reached out to some wedding planners I knew, became certified through The Bridal Society, assisted at a couple of weddings and I just knew this was my future. With extreme joy, excitement and some hesitation, Moonstruck Events was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In 2020, I made the difficult decision to leave the classroom after 13 years to pursue my dream career as a wedding planner. With the unwavering support of my friends, family, and my new husband, Moonstruck Events went from dream to reality. Although, this new endeavor has come with countless tears, many new challenges, a great deal of trial and error, and just good old fashioned elbow grease.
The wedding planning part was a dream and came naturally. Learning all the behind the scenes things that went into starting a new business was a different story, there is so much to learn and do I never knew about. Even with all the trial and errors as many new businesses have, the transition from education to wedding planning has felt almost seamless. I’ve greatly enjoyed the personal and professional growth that has come with the many new adventures and experiences this new profession has afforded me. Moonstruck is flourishing more than I could have ever imagined and I am beyond grateful every day.
We’ve been impressed with Moonstruck Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
