Meet Cristina Hernandez of Kismet Boutique in East End Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Hernandez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cristina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Having my own business is something I always dreamt of and had in my heart, for a long period of time I was afraid of following my dream. In 2014 my life took a series of changes and challenges, it was an awakening of sorts; it is then that I decided to pursue my dream of having my own business. In the last four years there has been both personal and business challenges but with faith, perseverance and the support of my family and customers I have made it to four years in business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As in everything you pursue there are always challenges so the road to having Kismet has not been a smooth one, but has molded my character and teaches me every day. The biggest challenge is gaining more consumers who are willing to shop small, it can be a challenge to compete with big box stores. I still believe that the shop small business movement will continue growing and consumers will be more inclined to shop from family owned businesses.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kismet Boutique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kismet is in a historic part of Houston and specializes in supporting local artisan, art, fashion and gifts. We are known for our eclectic selection of locally made items, apparel and gifts. I am most proud of the fact that Kismet is getting recognized more and people are starting to respond more by coming in to visit and shop. What sets Kismet apart from others is the fact that we do not stick to one theme or look, we are eclectic and support all types of artisans and art.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
It is hard for me to say I have future because sometimes those do not work, and you set yourself up for disappointment. I am focused on Kismet in the now and just try and grow it daily and just pray that more people hear of it and support us. I have other dreams in my heart but only time will tell.
