Has it been a smooth road?
It has always been important for me to give back to my community. My grandparents instilled that in me at an early age. As I have gotten married and had children, it is a challenge to balance professional commitments with personal commitments. However, it is all worth it because I feel very blessed to be able to lead an organization as amazing as CanCare.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CanCare, Inc. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
CanCare’s mission is to lift up and inspire cancer patients and caregivers through one-on-one support, empathy, and hope, to ensure that no one endures cancer alone.
CanCare provides one-on-one emotional support to cancer patients and their caregivers from extensively trained support volunteers who have experienced the physical, emotional and spiritual turmoil caused by a cancer diagnosis. The organization matches cancer patients and caregivers with others who have experienced and survived similar trials and challenges and offers hospital and treatment center visits to cancer patients and their loved ones when they are diagnosed or as they are going through treatment.
Over the past 29 years, CanCare has trained more than 1,750 volunteers who are caregivers and survivors of more than 75 different types of cancer. These selfless individuals have provided one-on-one emotional support to over 22,000 individuals and have made over 160,000 visits to patients and caregivers in hospitals and treatment centers.
We are very proud of the difference we are making in the lives of people affected by cancer and the impact our volunteers make on a daily basis.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of Houston and the various cultures my kids are exposed to on a daily basis.
I would like there to be better options for public transportation. Being one of the largest cities in the country, it is disappointing that we do not have better infrastructure for public transportation.
