Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Smith.
Crystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
While obtaining my bachelor’s degree in 2006 I got pregnant with my 1st child and immediately became a single mom. This was something I never imagined happening to me as I had always been an overachiever and had big plans for my life. Although the circumstances, I knew I still wanted to soar in my career professionally and personally live an amazing life. As I began to advance in my career, there would be other single parents reaching out to me asking me how I was progressing. Obviously my colleagues knew I didn’t have any help, but I was still advancing quickly in my career. Also, I was always being requested by colleagues and friends to look at their resumes to see if they could be enhanced or revamped when pursuing jobs or even changing industries.
Eventually something clicked that the knowledge that I had obtained professionally and the skills that I had acquired were transferrable skills that others had a desire to learn as well. This prompted me to start my career coaching and business consulting company called Six Figure Single Mom. I knew this business would help to professionally develop others by providing career coaching & strategizing sessions, workshops, seminars, masterminds, online courses, etc.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At times, this has not been a smooth road. As mentioned before, I am a single parent and have been one since the birth of my daughter back in 2006. There have been many obstacles that have been presented, including scheduling, planning, and just keeping my mindset strong when unexpected things arise. Creating proper contingency plans to assist me when needed has tremendously helped me when these occurrences arise. Scheduling and coverage is always a big challenge, however keeping the communication open with my internal network (those family members and friends that assist when needed) has helped a lot in those areas.
Another thing that has helped me has been planning my weeks in advance and getting those things that can be done early knocked out. Finding ways to stay on track and productive will always be they key factor when running into these challenges.

What sets me apart from other career coaching companies is that I am consistently sharing knowledge, resources, and content across many platforms so that clients have an individualized strategic roadmap from start to finish according to where they professionally are vs. where they desire to be. I also personally get to know my clients so that I can fully assess their needs and have a path forward for what would help them progress over time.
Brand wise I am most proud of the fact that I am helping to change the trajectory of so many single parent homes., and also changing the stigma of single parents overall. Instead I focus on helping them to get focused and obtain a winning and progressive mindset that will essentially take them to their desired financial goals (in addition to their career advancement). I offer 1 on 1 coaching, Resume Writing, and Motivational & Transformational speaking.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes. Overall I have always had a professional mentor as well as a personal mentor. Finding a mentor has stretched me as a personal and has contributed to my overall growth and success. When seeking a mentor, I always seek intentionally choose a mentor that is personable, familiar with the various company roles, departments, and key stakeholders within the organization. Mentors are vital when desiring to learn more, be exposed to more opportunities, be challenged, receive formal and informal coaching, and be provided solutions to questions that you may have.
Mentorship is a great way to ensure growth. I highly recommend to have at least one professional mentor and one personal mentor. These mentors will consistently take responsibility to make sure that you are hitting your desired goals in the timeframes that you want to hit them in. They also help you to become unconditioned to things that won’t assist with your progress.
