Today we’d like to introduce you to Cupcake Guerrero.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cupcake. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I would watch my mother and grandmother do their makeup and hair. In school, I was in cosmetology my junior and senior year of high school. However, I started my family early, my senior year and was not able to complete my hours in cosmetology. As I got into my 20’s, my friends would ask me to do their makeup because they liked how I did mine. Back then I was working at a dental office.
As I got into my 30’s, I met my husband, Thomas who is a Creative Director at an Ad Agency. He then saw I had a passion for the creative world. I remember doing my best friend, Lisa’s makeup for her birthday four years ago. It was that day that set it off. Thomas immediately set up everything for me, booked me a makeup workshop taught by Darcie Teaslely that got me certified to become a makeup artist! As soon as that took effect, he designed my business cards and my website. I still had excuses not to start, but he fully believed in my talent that I ran out of excuses. Now, looking back, I’ve done some pretty awesome shots, met lots of beautifully talented people along the way that I can call friends.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a smooth road, but having to get my name out there and getting consistent work can be challenging at times. You just have to keep going and don’t give up. Networking is a must and social media.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a full-time Makeup Artist that specializes in TV production, advertising, and fashion. One thing I do is bring a strong work ethic to each project and I’m always a team player when it comes to the project.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe to be successful as a makeup artist, it will benefit an MUA to be versatile, to tackle any project. One of the big trends I do see happening is the makeup that is healthy for your skin, more organic better for the environment.
