Meet Curtis Edwards Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtis Edwards Jr.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To briefly state my story… I was born in Cleveland Ohio grew up the big kid and by big I mean the fat kid. I spent my teenage years smiling big and having a huge personality but hated my body because it was bigger than everyone’s friends, and family. Once I moved to Texas I spent time dating and getting conversations like “you’re cute but too big for me” or “ you’re cute for a big guy”. I spent many days in the dark not loving myself and my body but towards the end of my twenties, I turned my thinking into loving myself and embracing what I felt was broken about myself. Now I’m so in love with my body and its imperfections and wants the bigger men to know it’s ok to be bigger man but be healthy as well

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not an easy road at all. The struggles I faced were horrible names being said to me, dating pool was non-existent due to people seeing only my size and not my heart. Self-doubt and dread were my friends.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in education as a campus technologist for a pk-8th grade campus. I am also in school for my master’s in marriage and family therapy. I am known for being the friend that has an open mind and loves to have deep conversations. I am most proud to be my mom’s son learning from her what it is to be a good person and having a big heart. Also most proud of my accomplishments thus far being first generation has its challenges but I’m here doing my best.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe I am a risk taker. The biggest risks I have taken thus far are starting my master’s degree I wanted a program that was in person and more hands on than paper based and I chose a program that is 100% online and paper based. The next risk I would say is taking a risk on myself and trusting myself to step outside of my comfort zone and take more pics among myself and represent bigger men.
