Today we’d like to introduce you to D. Alexander.
D, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally a native of Louisiana, I begin my process of self-actualization and writing when I was a teenager. I have been introspective and self-reflective towards life for as long as I can remember. I would always be deemed as “wise beyond my years or wise as an old man” and was always on the giving end of advice and knowledge. I created a Facebook page where I would share quotes of inspiration from the likes of great thinkers such as James Baldwin, Ralph Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau. I would study snippets of their work. I would create my own writings and interpretations where I also had a separate Facebook page entitled “D. Alexander Quotes,” which was filled with affirmations of thought and wisdom.
I always felt inclined to push an agenda of inspiration and encouragement. Even though I did have this Facebook page of quotes, my usual feed reflected almost everything I posted on the quotes page. I would always receive positive feedback from my posts. This would keep me pushing to be more creative towards the content I would share. The mind is infinite, and creative energy is addictive.
Community wise, anywhere I’ve lived I’ve manifested and used the tools given to me by the higher power I believe as God. As a teenager, I tutored in mathematics and science at local churches and always had a niche for STEM. In my adult years, I continued tutoring on an independent basis and worked at a home school. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
In the city of Houston where I now preside, I’ve contributed to a couple major nonprofit organizations in order to serve as a light of hope, impact, and inspiration. My aspirations are to encourage others to be more introspective, psychological, and active by leading by example. I also wish to continue to create through my collections of writings and soon-to-be-released project.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been far from smooth. Stating that is an understatement. Overcoming doubt and the will to continue to be inspiring and reflective has been challenging. To be completely transparent, I went awhile searching for what one would deem as a “team.” I believe I was fishing for support. One day, I looked into the mirror and told myself this is MY journey and vision. The only person who has to believe in you is YOU.
So, I gathered myself and continued working towards my writing project. My writing project reflects the beauty behind transparency of thoughts. Being able to relate to the imperfections and the upsides. The book cover itself is in black and white as these colors capture the soul. What’s pure and true.
Lion’s Den – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In regard to the writing project that will be available on September 1st, the title of the project is called “The Others: A Guide to Conscious Thinking.” I created this project to spread consciousness through self-reflection and creativity as well as challenge the narrative of what an author and individual of processing looks like. Others are those who challenge the narrative of mediocrity and normalcy.
I spend a lot of time pacing in thought. So I created a platform on Instagram (@denwrites). I created this platform to display life vivifications as quotes. Everything I created on this platform comes from the ability to speak from the heart.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Throughout my childhood, I was an introvert. I would spend many moons gathered in my thoughts, being creative, and imaginative. As a result of this dreamy personality, I enjoyed music and would find my thoughts in melodies and instruments.
