Meet Dan Gray of Texans Turf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Gray.

Hi Dan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I got into the artificial grass business about five years ago and started a company with a former co-worker from the mortgage business. It has been quite the challenge and lots of learning on the job but it has all worked out for the best and are customers have rewarded our efforts with the many positive reviews and referrals that we receive. I’ve had three separate partners and companies in this line of work and for varying reasons, they didn’t pan out. Starting Texans Turf on my own was the best decision I could have made. It shows that with hard work and persistence, you can accomplish your goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any new business, there will be struggles. I was fortunate when I started Texans Turf that I had a decent amount of savings put away to be able to start a business. You need working capital for equipment, materials and supplies associated with the turf business. You also need customers! In the beginning, I would pay for leads thru various sources, including HomeAdvisor, Angies List, Craigslist, Facebook, etc. Fortunately, our reputation for excellent work started to grow and we now have more than enough business from referrals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Texans Turf?
Texans Turf installs artificial turf in the Greater Houston area. We just hit 170 5-star Google Reviews as well as 5-star reviews with Yelp, HomeAdvisor and Facebook. We’re close to 230 and have been in business less than two years. We installed 1.1 million in volume the first year and are on pace to double that this year. We have three trucks, and multiple trailers and are currently running three installation crews to keep up with the demand. What makes you happy?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter. We have five dogs and six cats that keep us quite busy. We do a lot of traveling including trips to the beach and trips to other parts of Texas. We also like to ride motorcycles!
