Meet Danette Gregory of DG Unparalleled Celebrations & Events in 3rd Ward/Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danette Gregory.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Danette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interests in Event Planning began in 2012. I started decorating for my friends and family functions for several years, then some of my friends would all tell me “you should do this for a real business; you are really good at this.” I took what they said into consideration, and started to take a more serious look into the event-planning world. Therefore in 2016, I decided to collaborate with a few of my friends and create Events by LDS. As time passed, we would be booked for several events within the year, and my passion, commitment to my vision and my customers became extremely important and a top priority in my life.

On May 6, 2017 I lost my mom, which was the worst thing I could have ever imagined. I am an only child, so this was very traumatic for me. After losing my mom, I began to get my life matters in order and put things in perspective, which included changes in my business. I wanted to start a solo business, just to have something to call my own, so in April 2018, I decided to change my business and incorporate the initials I now use, which are mine, my mom and dads. I always said I wanted it to be a family business. Therefore, that is how I came about the name DG Unparalleled Celebrations & Events. This first year under my new name has been nothing but a true blessing. My business is great and God continues to bless me to be a blessing to others and make their visions come alive.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been easy at first I was trying to do the entire business alone. Meeting customers, invoices, creating proposals, ordering merchandise you name it. I was able to hire staff which in include friends and family. My cousin Terryn Taylor stepped up now she handles a lot of the daily task with me and for me that I can continue to grow the business and keep giving outstanding customer services and making their vision come alive. I love to say relax and stop worrying and we will handle it all for you. My dream is to build this into a family business.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My dad past away in 2003. I can remember going to the Astros games with him on Sundays. This was such a great experience and believed it or not I’m not a huge sports fan. The game of baseball I really enjoy and it keeps my attention. It was great bonding time and definitely lasting memories I will treasure forever.
