Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Miranda.
Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been dancing since I was 13, but I choreographed my first Quinceañera at the age of 17. I was asked by a family friend to help them. Of course, I said yes and I did it for free to learn and get the experience I needed to be a proper choreographer. Later that year I got a call asking how much I charge to choreograph Quinceañeras.
That’s where it all started. I decided to take it seriously, charge a good reasonable price and make my own dance crew by the name of Classics. After creating classics, we just grew quickly in the community and as a family. Classics was established in 2014 that’s when we got a studio space where we are at today (6030 Highway 6 N, Houston, TX 77084).
We started offering more than just Quinceañeras choreography. We started hosting Classes from Bachata to HipHop to Heel classes and now we are also doing Reggaeton. We have had great success with these classes over the years and plan to keep giving the community something to look forward to for dancing different styles from Latin to Urban. I thank God, my crew, and my supporters for all the things the business has accomplished.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has actually been a smooth road until recently with Covid-19. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to. I know for sure the whole dancing scene of Houston and studios can agree with me when I say that. But we all support each other and better days are coming our way.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We mainly specialize in Choreographing Quinceañeras and that is what we are known for. But what I am mainly proud of is that people can come and learn how to dance at the studio and give them that outlet they’re looking for or even to just be themselves and learn a new hobby. We like to encourage anyone that wants to learn how to dance to come by and give it a try. What I would say sets us apart from other studios is the verity we offer. All styles from Latin to HipHop. For example. Bachata, Salsa, HipHop, Reggaeton etc.
What were you like growing up?
For sure, I was a hyper kid growing up. Always active in playing sports and trying new things. I did Soccer my whole life and did martial arts for four years and I loved it, but then dance started paying me so I had to put all my focus on dance. It sure did pay off. I always wanted to become a leader in something. I always found myself being the first to try something out and going for it. If it was coaching a little league team or being the first in class to speak on a presentation or even just trying to build my own platform as I do now.
Anyone can do it. I just need to work hard and believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will? You have to go out there and do it for yourself and make a name for it. Start from nothing and create something. Somebody has to do it, so might as well be you.
