Meet Danielle Lomeli of The Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Lomeli.

Hi Danielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I suppose you could say I am where I am now by taking roads less traveled. By the time I reached an age where I was expected to consider colleges, careers, and long term goals I knew I was in for a ride. I went through the motions of what was “expected” of me until I felt so creatively trapped. Ultimately, I took matters into my own hands. I’m lead and driven by my passion for creativity. It’s when I feel most powerful and inspired. I traveled around the states on and off for a couple of years after graduating high school in Spring, Texas. I pinballed my way from Stillwater, Oklahoma for school to Hillside, New Jersey for a career opportunity until I found my way back to Houston. Growing up, I had always imagined myself leaving Houston and never to return. I am pleased to say that now I couldn’t picture living anywhere else. Houston is and always will be my home because of my plethora of creative interests. I suppose it was only a matter of time that I found my way into the world of entrepreneurship. I have a soft spot for the arts and I am passionate about design, details, and professionalism. Thus, my first small-business venture (Wrapping by Danielle) was born.

Gift wrapping to me has become somewhat of a lost art. I vividly remember walking through department stores as a child during the holidays and begging my parents to drop off our gifts to be wrapped. At the time I was fascinated by all of the combinations of paper and ribbon they had neatly on display and still am to this day. Could you believe that there was at one time an entire department dedicated to gift wrapping? My mother was the one to teach me how to wrap but it was almost as if she was passing me the torch. Ever since I mastered the process, she hasn’t had to wrap a single gift since. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to take her tips and tricks and run with them on my own creative path. If you put as much thought and effort into selecting the perfect gift for someone, then I’m sure you’ve also contemplated how to properly present it as well. I think that going that extra mile is what truly makes a statement. It’s what makes people feel appreciated and puts a smile on their face while adding an extra bit of anticipation and awe. I leave no gift unwrapped – bringing color and joy to Houston one neatly and creatively wrapped package at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely wouldn’t consider my journey a smooth ride. Although I fully embrace and appreciate the lessons I’ve learned along the way, some did not come so easy. I struggled with finding my passions somewhat late in life. I went back and forth with school and even the direction of my career path before I could clearly envision the life I wanted for myself. Soon enough I decided that I wanted to creatively inspire others. Being a woman, I dealt with a lot of scrutiny. If it wasn’t a man telling me I couldn’t make it in a specific field, it was another woman wanting to tear me down from within. Little did I know, that only drove me to push harder and dream bigger. It was then that I found confidence in my creative vision and my knack for organization and will power.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am focusing on the art of gift wrapping. When it comes to a gift I am a firm believer in the details and the presentation. I specialize in luxe gift wrapping where I create and enhance the experience of gifting. Wrapping by Danielle gives that ‘wow’ factor with thoughtful and tailored wrapping combinations. I am known for my vision, eye for design, and my ability to “put things together”. Whether I am creating a story on Instagram, staging a flat lay for a photo, or selecting items for one of my gifts, I always get asked HOW I do it. Honestly, it’s my most treasured gift, and I am thankful to have found life and light in it. I’m most proud of the fact that I put myself out there! Showcasing your work and then, on top of that, charging people for it can be a bit scary at first. No turning back now, and I can’t wait for whatever project of mine may come next. I believe that what sets me apart from others is my creativity and professionalism. My background is primarily customer service; I love that as an entrepreneur and small business owner I can combine my love for connection and community with my passion for creativity and design.

What makes you happy?
To sum it up into one word – art. Whether it be nature, music, painting, photography, or a poem it makes me feel alive and whole. I think that’s why I have such a strong passion and yearning to incorporate creativity into my business ventures. My hope is to inspire people to see beauty and to feel something, even in the most simplest of things. I like to walk through life with a “stop and smell the roses” mentality.
